My Week in Gaming 11/10-11/16

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

I finally finished Shadow of Mordor. The last two missions were laughably easy. However, I honestly appreciated it, because I was ready to move past the game, at that point. I definitely had a lot of fun, but a lot of the tasks got repetitive, and I just always felt uneasy taking on the Captains and Warchiefs, even once I got to the point where I was killing them in pretty short order.

I actually only ended up dying a total of 3-4 times, and all of those were within the first few hours of playing. I only felt I ever really had one "Nemesis," but that was because I killed that orc over and over - not that he killed me more than one time. Overall, though, it was effective to see him again later in the game and destroy him one last time. :)

I think I'll be ready for a sequel in a couple years, but I hope they change the environment to be something where I feel I have a little more control (i.e. taking over outposts like in Far Cry 3 or 4).

Watch Dogs

One lesson I may have finally learned is to not buy "Season Passes" for games until I know there is enough single-player content coming out to make them worth it. I've been burned too many times...

I played through most of the Bad Blood DLC for Watch Dogs last week. I have found it enjoyable, though I feel I'm still tired of that game. By the end of the main campaign, I was just tired of the world and doing the same tasks over and over. I never liked the characters much, and I never really loved the moment-to-moment gameplay. I would have liked it better if there was more of a "stealth" aspect when using all of the hacking skills, but I find that I usually can take out a few people with hacking and then have to go to my guns, which I never find as satisfying.

Anyway, I'm glad I played this DLC, and I would be open to checking out a full Watch Dogs sequel, in the future, but I really hope they refine the hacking mechanic, the enemy AI a bit, and add more ways to complete missions and get through areas. Also, I really want some better characters. Aiden and T-Bone just really grate on me...
