This Crazy Thing Called Wrasslin' - ECW 9/29/09

Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Apparently Miz and John Morrison are not. I did catch their appearances on the show, which is my first time actually seeing that show. The Miz needs Ritalin. He was jumping all over the place and I think he might have really freaked out Jeff Foxworthy. Morrison did a great job on the show answering every question correctly, but missed the final bonus question...

Are you smarter than a 5th grader? Apparently Miz and John Morrison are not. I did catch their appearances on the show, which is my first time actually seeing that show. The Miz needs Ritalin. He was jumping all over the place and I think he might have really freaked out Jeff Foxworthy. Morrison did a great job on the show answering every question correctly, but missed the final bonus question and lost it all. It was sad to see that happen knowing the Make A Wish Foundation had a $250,000 donation coming, but having it drop to $2,500 just because of one missed question. Oh well, maybe next time.

ECW started off with William Regal announcing that he was the new Interim GM after Tiffany was in a "car accident." She was actually injured in a match during an FCW taping last Thursday. She has a broken humerus in her left arm. The humerus is the part of the arm above the elbow. Thanks Wikipedia for that one. The main event was announced during this, but later changed into a 8 Man Tag pitting Christian, Tommy Dreamer, Yoshi Tatsu, and Goldust vs. Zach Ryder, Vladimir Kozlov, Ezekiel Jackson, and William Regal.

The show then kicked off with the Abraham Washington Show featuring John Morrison as the night's guest. This was the first time that I actually enjoyed the Abe Show. Abraham is a terrible addition to ECW and doesn't get a good reaction from the crowd. Tony Atlas helps make the show a little better with his laugh, but usually it is not enough to save the segments. The reason I liked this edition of the show was because Morrison barely allowed Abe to talk during the segment. While Morrison was talking Dolph Ziggler decided to join in the festivities without invitation. The others didn't like this and took to making fun of Ziggler, not even allowing him to speak at all. Hopefully in future editions of the Abe Show he decides to keep his mouth shut because it makes the show much better. By the way, Mr. Ziggles is not a funny insult. Please Morrison, just stop.

After this we get the first match of the night between Paul Burchill and Shelton Benjamin. Shelton was attacked on his way to the ring by Sheamus. This feud is starting to heat up and Sheamus is doing a great job with his role. Shelton was given some time to recover as he decided to continue with the match. Burchill completely dominated this match, not allowing Shelton to get any offense in at all. And that was exactly what I wanted to see. Burchill was given a chance to show his wrestling ability and delivered for the most part. Then I noticed that he was using the arm bar way to much. He did a good job of working on the shoulder Sheamus damaged, but variation is key. I am sure the arm bar is not the only move that can be used to work the shoulder. Shelton was able to hit the Pay Dirt very suddenly to pick up the victory. Not a bad match overall.

We got a backstage segment showing Christian giving his team a little pep talk. Yoshi and Christian go back and forth with a bunch of thank yous which was a bit funny. Goldust was there to bring the pep talk home, with the stuttering. Goldust is great as a comedic character, and it is good to see that he is finally being used on TV. His last couple ventures in the WWE didn't fare out to well and it is about time he is getting his due.

The main event was up next. This was a great 8 Man Tag match. Probably as great as one of these type of matches can be. Frequent tags kept the match fresh and exciting. Kozlov and Ezekiel are great when they wrestle in short bursts and are not in the ring for much time. The heel team did a great job of taking advantage of the ref and sneaking shots in whenever possible. It was great to see Yoshi Tatsu get the victory in this one. Hopefully that will help to push the newcomer into a more prominent position on the brand. Great match to end the show.

I will be back on Friday to talk about Superstars and Impact. Also this Friday will be the 10th Anniversary of Smackdown. The Rock makes an appearance on the show, though not a live one. It is good to see Rock finally accept the fact that he came from this industry and that if it wasn't for the WWE audience he may have not made it in Hollywood at all.
