Let's get to it. Stick with me, this gets awful. The Elusive Target lady on that first gaming segment of Unprofessional Fridays, whose charity work was a front for human experimentation, reminds of working in a hotel. There were a bunch of Syrian dudes (very young, like 18-26 or so) who had rooms in the extended stay apartments there as "students.” Their government paid for their stays, I belie...

I'm so used to "scrolling down" on Youtube (because apparently I hate myself or something) and finding the worst mankind has to offer that when I started reading comments from intelligent folk on my last blog post that I literally dropped my tablet on my face. Or maybe it was because I was holding it while watching an entire episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation just before. Either way it s...

This is more on what I took away while working on my first sci-fi novel “ Atypical (Saints of the Void, Book 1) ,” which is available free in a bunch of places including iTunes and Smashwords, and for $.099 on Amazon (because Amazon doesn’t let me give it away). This blog is essentially just one subject, and that’s keeping my work and style at my own intelligence and enjoyment level rather than...

This is just stuff about how I've changed as a writer or a person since the start of this endeavor of writing a science-fiction novel. It is long and personal, but here it is. First, links, because I have to be a filthy, filthy person about telling people about my work if I want to get somewhere. I probably will do one more round of polish to clean up the remaining couple percent of tiny issues...

In following the Adam Savage rule of “ Show and Tell” (which I’ve been doing a lot of lately), I’ve decided to write this blog. I wrote a sci-fi novella titled “Saints of the Void: Atypical,” part of a pretty long series of short stories and books I have in the works, but I need a cover for this first thingy and probably for the others as I finish them. I’d do it myself as I’m capable and a hav...

I was wondering why I felt so much like pure trash after Ryan's passing was announced. I wondered why it felt like such a terrible thing to lose someone you never knew, and you'd likely never have known. Then I thought about how much I listened to the GB crew over the years, including at GameSpot proper. It was the personalities that helped me realize a few important things about my own persona...

Recently I grabbed a few games out of a box, namely Kingdom Hearts 2, Shadow Hearts: From The New World, and Metal Gear Solid 3. The rest of my stuff is at my parents' place in another box, and I'm frankly too lazy to go there, so those were my choices when I decided to once try out a PS2 emulator. I figured to try again with a game that apparently runs really well, so I decided to make an ISO...

Fumito Ueda Alright, lets just compare Team Ico to Naughty Dog. 1. PS3 Exclusive developers, so only one hardware platform to get things working on. 2. They make single-player games, though Naughty Dog also added multi-player that was well-received for two titles. 3. Both studios' games have a certain focus on cinematic events and characters. 4. Set pieces that are jaw dropping in their immensi...

Just a list of what I hope will be on sale to stop this feeling of money burning a hole in my pocket. I've made enough purchases in Novembers past to know that buying anything in that month (or October) tech or game related means I'll just be royally pissed the last Friday on the month. Let's get to it. Intel Core i5 2500K This is absolutely my most wanted item. I can manipulate my way to cheap...

Battlefield 3 (from a Joystiq post) They say the game will be vastly different from the beta. Thank God. I know that a beta isn’t the full version by any means, but sometimes it gives just the right amount of an idea of the final product. Unfortunately, that broken thing left an awful taste in my mouth in too many ways. Now that they’ve addressed the issue by stating how much will have been cha...

Metacritic What possible reason could anyone have to form some sort of Douchebag Alliance in order to dole out bad reviews for games they (I'm certain) haven't played? It's like seeing someone with ice cream across the street on a hot day and instead of thinking "I could use some of that," they spray paint "everything in here sucks!" all over the Ben and Jerry's storefront so others don't want...

Random thoughts on basically random game-related topics Dead Space 2 I've gotten used to playing games on "Hard" or the equivalent difficulty setting these days. I've simply played too many to be challenged by anything regarded as "Normal" unless the game itself is ramped up a bit in that regard. Unfortunately, sometimes the difference between those two settings is incredibly unbalanced. Dead S...

PSN Download Speed You know what? People complaining about PSN download speeds are either liars, a-holes, or a-holes with slow connections. I just checked, and my speeds are about 2mb/s during off-peak hours - as in, when everyone isn't downloading everything at the same time. That's the same as I get from Steam, and almost as fast as I can get anything from the internet (I've hit 2.6 intermitt...

Uncharted 3 Beta Man... this game is fun as hell. I’m not quite sure how much I enjoy it technically, but the multiplayer options themselves are very entertaining. The recording feature is also something I accidentally wasted time with since the cinematic controls are so deep. I can definitely see myself spending a couple months occasionally popping in for some online fun when the full game is...

Magicka Man, this game would be so awesome if if had ANY kind of checkpoint system (well it has one, but it's one of the worst I've ever seen). I got tired of the whole replay a whole level or massive chunk of one when aspect of gaming after I could afford to buy my own games. As addicting, funny, and bad-ass as it is, it is nearly unplayable to me. I may come back, but as of tonight I'm done w...

Just a list of topics and thoughts thereafter that I may as well write somewhere... Final Fantasy XIV I like this game. It took me a while and a handful of updates before I even played it after purchase (plus it was killing my video card, so I took the opportunity to upgrade that and my power supply), but it is getting better on the regular. I look forward to the changes and additions the new p...

Haven't put up a blog here in a while, so I figured it was time to jot down some terse thoughts. Onward to bullet points! Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is easily the best game in the series combat-wise. It is frantic, fast, and fun. Too bad a real next game in the series won't be out until Haley Joel Osment needs a prostate exam Enslaved was awesome, until I heard that the PS3 version wasn't o...

*Copied from my personal blog* Commentary on Digital Media This is me post from a story on IGN regarding how gamers still overwhelmingly prefer discs over downloads: "Physical media is, at this point, an unfortunate necessity. It doesn't matter at all, and everything would run better as a digital copy, but too many people don't have the internet speeds capable of a fast download. Plus, some gam...

*Copied and edited from the June, 19th 2010 post on my personal blog* This Year's E3: The Reality Ah, the Electronic Entertainment Expo. This trade show can really make a gamer's year with cool announcements, surprises, and details of formerly vague hardware and software. Too bad I was bored out of my skull this year. Lovely. Every gamer has a wish list, whether it be a written one (like mine f...

*Copied from the June 12th update to my personal blog* E3 2010! The Electronic Entertainment Expo is the biggest video game industry trade show, and because of that there are tons of surprises every single year. Recently, a post on the IGN.com message boards (a place I have gone to literally three times in the past year) asked folks what they'd like to see, and these were my personal top ten de...

*Copied from the April 28th and 30th posts on my personal blog* Assassin's Creed 2 Micro-Review Alrighty, time for me to talk about yet another game way after its release. This time, it's Assassin's Creed 2 in all its sacrilegious glory. Despite not playing the first one for more than an hour, I found myself attracted to this one but with no time to play it until recently. I'll get this out of...

I can't keep my mouth shut about it anymore... Roger Ebert opens his big mouth and again starts to prove that he is simply an elitist douche. I am, at heart, an optimist. While I am fully capable of admitting a hatred of people who are purposely ignorant, at the same I only wish the best for them and hope they are able to expand their thinking. Ebert, though, just really needs to shut the hell...
