I played four games today.
I won the first game with solid macro play in a Zerg versus Protoss on Lost Temple. I think when I macro well, I can manage a pretty good game. My opponent put down a lot of cannons, but never really attacked. He slaughtered my first two attacks, but I was wearing him down and eventually took out his expansion. I kept pushing, and eventually his army fell.
The second game was later in the day. It was a Zerg versus Terran. I don't think I did that well. I never really felt like I had a good handle on the game. The match was on Blistering Sands. I saw that he had hellions, but I didn't block my ramp with roaches. He harassed with them and killed off a lot of drones. He also dropped with them a couple times as well. I don't really know what I was doing this game, and I think he took advantage of it. I haven't watched the replay yet, but I guess if I scouted and saw the factories, I should have known that hellions were coming. I don't have a good counter strategy yet, though. I did have a lot of distractions during this game - the girlfriend asking me where things were left on the table, and the TV with the NFL playoff games on, but I honestly think it didn't matter much. Maybe if I was 100% concentrating on the game, I could have reacted better or came up with a counterstrategy, but I think I was just outplayed.
The third game was a Protoss versus Terran game. It was on Lost Temple, and we had cross-map positions. I thought I held on okay. I remember thinking that I needed to go to colossus, but I didn't really get there. I had them, but I was able to take care of him with mostly gateway units. I don't use sentries much, and basically won the game with zealots and stalkers.
The final game was epic. It was a Protoss versus Terran game on Jungle Basin. I still don't have a good feel for this map. I warped in two gateways and a robotics facility, but didn't really know where to go from there. My opponent attacked with a couple of marauders and a couple of marines, but luckily I already had two zealots and two stalkers. He was doing that attack-and-retreat stutter step. I think that means he has decent micro. I just ordered my units to attack and made sure that I had more on their way. I expanded to a second base and kept making more units. I added colossi much earlier this game, and made sure they were part of my army. When I expanded to my third base, I pushed out, and saw that he was trying to take his third base as well. Luckily, I was in good position with my colossi. I attacked and took out a lot of his army. He reinforced with vikings, but I added more stalkers. I destroyed his expansion and started marching into his base. When he gg'ed, I thought I had played well. After the game, I looked at his profile. He was Platinum! I think 7th, if I remember correctly. The other games were two gold players and an unranked player. He did seem better, but I also think I had a good game.
At any rate, I'm now #1 in my Silver division, by 20 points. We'll have to see if I can hold onto it.
