Maybe Gold isn't out of reach...

I only played one game tonight. It was a Protoss versus Protoss game on Shakuras Plateau. I scouted him early across the map. He was diagonally opposite me. I only played one game tonight. It was a Protoss versus Protoss game on Shakuras Plateau. I scouted him early across the map. He was diagonally opposite me. It didn't look like there was anything fancy going on, so I just kept macroing. I took a second vespene gas geyser, even though I normally don't. I didn't really have a build order in mind. I made a robotics facility early. I figured I'd need to get to colossi sooner or later, and I thought it would be good to have detection in case my opponent rushed to dark templars.

I did pretty well with my macro - I don't think I was supply blocked and I kept my money low. I constantly made probes. He tried to push up my ramp. I repelled it, just barely. I had one sentry, so I cast a forcefield. I think the forcefield was actually in the wrong position -  it didn't appear to block the ramp, but my opponent retreated regardless.

My scouting probes occupied both Xel'Naga watch towers, so I had a pretty clear view of the map. He had pylons scattered near my base. I guess they were there to help warp in more units, but it didn't make much sense to me.

I managed to hold off a second attack. More zealots made their way up the ramp, but I was able to pick them off by "kiting" them with my stalkers. I'd retreat, shoot at the zealots, and then retreat again before they could strike my stalkers with their psi blades. He build more units, and tried to rush my ramp again. My immortal fell, but the stalker army was able to hold off his attack.

He quit, but not before calling me names. He didn't understand why he lost to me (with only two warpgates) while he had four warpgates. I told him I was constantly building probes. "What's that have to do with it?" he asked. I told him that better macro, and constantly building units out of two warpgates will beat four warpgates that are idle most of the time. We messaged back a bit. He called me a scrub for not knowing the difference between a two-gate and a four-gate rush. Whatever. I still won.

I think it shows that the fundamentals still matter a lot. I think I also got some free shots in with my stalkers surrounding the top of my ramp. I'm not sure that his units could see all the stalkers (or attack them) when he was still rushing up the ramp. I'll have to look at the replay again.

When I looked up my opponent's profile, I saw that he was 29th in Platinum league. I was sort of surprised. He was fast, but I didn't think he was that good. He was the second platinum player that I've beaten recently. Maybe Gold league (or even Platinum league!)  isn't out of reach.
