Go Lakers!
I had tickets to the Lakers game tonight, so I didn't think I'd have any time to play. I was promoted to Silver league yesterday (at #1) but the division wasn't filled up yet. I checked earlier in the day and I was ranked #2. By the time I got back home tonight, I was #5. Since I haven't been getting enough sleep, I thought I might only have time for one game.
I ended up being Zerg on Steppes of War against another Zerg. I didn't know how to play - whether I should worry about a 6-pool, play a 9-pool myself, or just go for a long game. I decided to morph a spawning pool after I had 13 drones. It's a little fast, but should give me a good economy. We both had a lot of zerglings, but he morphed a baneling nest. I had to be carfeul with my zerglings, because one of his exploding banelings could take out a bunch of my zerglings with one hit. Luckily, my zerglings were streaming in, so I took out some of his, and evened out the numbers. Even though he killed off all my zerglings, he only had three banelings left to attack my base.
By that time, my roach warren had finished. I started morphing larvae into roaches. With their armor, they were more resistant to the banelings. The two that made it to my base died quickly. (When I watched the replay, I saw that the third one had retreated back to his base.)
I started an expansion. I also morphed a lot of roaches and pressured him. However, when I made it up his ramp, two spine crawlers, a handful of roaches, and some zerglings were waiting for me. My roaches were surrounded and overwhelmed. I quickly morphed two spine crawlers for defense, cancelled my expansion, and then started making reinforcements.
The attack never came. He apparently had expanded instead, while I was morphing as many roaches as I could. I started to outnumber him. I had 17 roaches to his 10, but he had two spine crawlers and a couple of zerglings. Unfortunately, I attacked right as the second spine crawler finished. A little earlier and I would have had more of an advantage. My numbers held, and I was able to kill of his forces, the two spine crawlers, and attack his expansion. He didn't try to save his drones. I killed them off, as well as destroy the hatchery. He started making hydralisks as well, but by this time, I had already extended my advantage in numbers. Again, he only had ten roaches while I had 17, and there were more coming. By the time the hydralisks hatched, he had 13 roaches to my 22. My numbers were just too much. I was able to wipe out his army and he gg'ed. He was 5th in Gold league. I am now #1 in Silver league.
