I played two games after work today. I didn't get home until after 10 PM.
The first game I played, the game loaded really slowly. By the time I had made my second probe, the other player disconnected. A free win, I guess. :(
The second game, I played Zerg. My opponent was also Zerg. We played on Delta Quadrant. He found me right away, but then didn't really force any pressure. I expanded quickly and was sniping spying overlords, but I didn't really attack. I made extra queens and added a couple of hatcheries to my main base. Basically, I ended up with a huge amount of units, as well as a lot of larvae at my hatcheries. I actually had three hatcheries, with three more just for producing units. I was maxed at 200 control, so I started to attack. The first attack failed.
I did something new, though. When I was attacking and units were dying off, I switched back to my main and started making more units. I didn't watch the battle. I think this is a really important point. So, my units were attacking, but I was busy making more hydralisks and roaches back at my base. My attacking force was killed off by his spine crawlers and the rest of his army. He counterattacked, but by the time he reached my base, the hydralisks and roaches had hatched, so we had equal armies again.
Again, I had a lot of units left over, so I sent them to attack. I found his unprotected expansion, so I attacked it. He attacked while I was taking out his expansion. He was killing my queen and spine crawlers while my units were still walking back to my base (after taking out his expansion) again, I made more hydralisks and roaches instead of watching the fight. My units got there after I lost one of the hatcheries, but I managed to clean up and rebuild.
Finally, I sent those units to attack his base. While they were attacking, I went back to my base, injected larvae and made more hydralisks and roaches. He gg'ed.
Later, when I looked at the replay, I realized that he made ultralisks. I didn't even see them during the game. My group of roaches and hydralisks wiped them out before I even switched back to my army.
The moral of this story? Macro > micro. It's more important to look at your base, inject larvae and make units, instead of worrying about which units your hydralisks are attacking, and in what order.
