Back on track
I figured the best way to get back on track was to keep playing. I wanted to watch the NCAA Football National Championships, so I didn't play StarCraft II right away. I figured the best way to get back on track was to keep playing. I wanted to watch the NCAA Football National Championships, so I didn't play StarCraft II right away. After the wrong team won, I started playing StarCraft II. I already had dinner and a beer, and I was feeling rather good.
I started a 1v1 match. I was Terran against a Zerg opponent on Blistering Sands. Since he was Zerg, I walled off with my barracks and supply depot. I started my normal build to get to medivacs. I thought I was doing okay, and picked off a few zerglings when he harrassed my front. I thought he might attack the rocks at the rear of my base, but he didn't. I built a supply depot there to keep an eye on things, just in case.
When I had two medivacs, I started grouping my army at the front of my base. Then I saw it. He had a bunch of zerglings. Some of them were morphing into banelings. Immediately, I brought three SCVs to the front and started building bunkers. The idea was that even if he busted through the supply depots, the bunkers would still block him off. He attacked. I stimmed my marine-marauder army and tried to hold him off. The supply depot burnt to the ground. The bunkers weren't in the right location, so he was able to leak into my base, albeit one at a time. He toasted a bunch of my marines and marauders, but I barely survived.
I started pumping out more marines and marauders, as well as repairing my front. I still hadn't expanded at that point. I loaded up my medivacs and intended to drop on his base. As I moved my three medivacs out there, he saw them. He pulled his army back, but I was able to drop and do some damage. I attacked his main worker line, and took out some of the drones. My stimmed army then tried to pick off his spawning pool. It died right before his army got there. I lifted off most of the my army, but some of the stragglers were killed by the zerg swarm.
I then went and dropped at his expansion. I took out a lot of workers, but he ran up with more units again. I killed some more, and then evac'ed my army before the banelings got there. He quit the game.
I wasn't sure how much I hurt him, and I didn't do a good job at macro while I was attacking. When I looked at the replay, though, he was in a rather tough spot. I could have let him kill off my units with banelings, and he wouldn't be able to do anything until another spawning pool was built. My opponent was in the Silver division. I'm still #1 in Bronze. I'm 121 points ahead of second place and 450 points ahead of third.
After my 1v1 game, my college roommate came online. We played a few 2v2, but we got killed pretty quickly. His friend from Barstow showed up for a 3v3, but we got killed there, too. He left after the 3v3 game.
We looked over some replays, and did some other tests. I showed him how I thought we needed to macro better. I also showed how stalkers can hold off a void ray rush. I was able to build three stalkers before his first void ray. I also showed how three stalkers could easily take out one void ray. I didn't realize that I wouldn't even lose a stalker in the process. Finally, I sent him some links to Day[9] videos. Maybe it'll help.
