This last week we had to say goodbye to a legend that many of you may have never heard of. But if you're a fan of comics, you've seen his ludicrously generic name. In a more just world where names were marketing, he would have been known as Amadeus David Rourke. Instead, he was Peter David. My extended thoughts here , check out my other work. We live on clicks in Hellworld and I need to buy mor...

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a writer. I was born with ADHD and generalized anxiety, and being a writer seemed like the best, coolest, most fun way to communicate my ideas the way I wanted, while avoiding the pitfalls of the kind of fame I wasn't really looking for. I found with my sardonic, deeply American-born-Jew-style humor, I was frequently misunderstood and my tone c...

I didn't read a single comic that starred The Tick until I was in college in the mid-2000s. I watched the cartoon in the '90s, but since it was a Fox Kids cartoon, I had no notion of what the original author (Ben Edlund) had in mind for the series, that was meant to parody comics at the time. Whether it be a gun-mad Punisher joke of a hero, of which the Tick himself quips, "I think superheroes...

Yesterday I, and many the world over, awoke to what was possibly the most shocking news I could imagine: David Bowie had died. Apparently he'd been diagnosed with liver cancer 18 months ago and simply hadn't gone public with it, but going back and watching the video for Lazarus, it's clear that he knew his days were numbered and the number was getting awfully low. Two things struck me about thi...

Something I haven't seen/heard brought up at ALL in the varied and interesting discussion about this game is something very, very subtle: there is a metric TON of audio/dialog clips that can be WILDLY different depending on when you hear them. Just the ambient dialog around the police station can change depending on where you are in the game, but also Riddler's taunts and Batman's comments base...

We all heard the news, and if you haven't, I'll be brief: Giant Bomb lost founding member and all-around amazing duder Ryan Davis. I don't have a lot to add to the discussion, others who knew him better are doing a FAR better job, but I do have two very specific, very personal memories from what were two of the happiest months of my life as a Whiskey Media intern: Look at him...knowing so much...

This is a long one. Don't wanna read? Don’t eat. Pictured: Apparently worst than a literal housing crisis So it’s been about a month since the...controversial(?) DmC Devil May Cry’s release and, while the inexplicable fervor has died down for the most part, it has not gone away despite the game’s excellent review scores and almost universal acclaim from reviewers, with some accusing Capcom of s...

2012 was certainly a weird-ass year. The console generation's almost certainly overstayed its welcome (thanks in part to a global financial meltdown), and devs who would perhaps rather be breaking new ground have been forced to retread the old. In spite of that, and my list will certainly run this joke into the ground, I can't think of a year in recent memory that I stayed up well past midnight...

I am not going to spoiler block ANYthing in this blog, because the entire thing would read like one of Richard Nixon's memos. So if you haven't beaten ME3 yet and decided to ignore my giant, obvious warning, I will say again: Turn back. Turn back. Turn back. Upfront: the fact that they have very similar cinematics sucks and I really didn't care for the starchild (I thought the projection could...

Probably a titsch redundant at this point (since it's more than 5 minutes after the demo was released) but fuck it, it's my blog and I'll write I want to. Write if I want to. Wriiiiite if I want to. You would write too if you just played this demooooooo. Oh and I haven't tried the multiplayer, so I may edit this to include that after I do, or I may just make a separate post. Long story short on...

Around three months ago, and quite on a lark, I sent our friendly neighborhood community manager Ethan a PM after seeing a post for a Whiskey Media internship on his Twitter feed. I didn’t really expect anything to come of it since I lacked experience (in video editing, specifically), I wasn’t in college (I’d already graduated) and I figured I’d be too old (none of your damn business!), but he...

There I am in my Whiskey Media "I'm a Wizard..." shirt (which I DID have to pay for, just in case anyone thinks us interns get special privileges) holding a goblet of...magic potion...let's go with that, on Friday, June 10th 2011. E3 technically ended yesterday, but we're still putting up videos, and I have COMPLETELY checked out mentally. You can hear me on ComicVine's podcast, and read me on...

Look at him...confused by our simple box technology. Two weeks later and already a ton has changed. By now you've all been introduced to Ben (or GlenTennis as you probably know him better as), who arrived two weeks ago (kinda. More like a week and a half). He's assumed many of my previous responsibilities, including the AnimeVice trailer updating, and I had to train him. He's also tall like a t...

Holy Magilla Gorilla, has it already been a month? It seems that way, but my journey to this internship began a whole month and a half ago. HUGE difference. I started following Ethan (resident community manager) on Twitter a few months back and I saw an update on his for an internship at the Whiskey Media Offices. Now, I'd applied for such an internship when it got posted on the actual forums a...

I just played the DA2 demo again and I have so much to say, so I figured instead of starting a million different forum posts, I'd just put it all in a blog. I Love the New Darkspawn Okay, I lied, I already started a forum post about this, but I just can't help myself. The new darkspawn look is awesome. We learn in the last game that darkspawn are created by corrupting humans, elves, dwarves and...

The best way I can think to describe this game with shorthand, which is a practice I actually hate doing but recognize the benefit of, is God of War meets Assassin's Creed by way of Jak and Daxter. If that sounds like a mish-mash, that's because it kind of is. The combat is the usual character-action game fare, weak hit, strong hit, combine them to combo, etc, etc, but the traversal is very Ass...

I was recently terminated wrongfully. I won't get into details cause I'm not sure of the legality of going into detail, but the City agrees with me so I got on unemployment. I'm making about half what I was, but it's more than enough for rent, real food and the occasional vidja game or movie. While I seek out a new job, I thought I'd start a new blog series where I review food and drinks. Usual...

I've never really been much for online gaming for a number of reasons. Prohibitive use of time being chief among them (I like to diversify my game playing, I don't really have time to play one enough to get a good at it let alone multiple ones), but the fact that online users seem to be slavering lunatics devoid of social graces or even souls is a close second. However when Street Fighter 4 (an...

After seeing the very well produced trailer of The Force Unleashed 2, I was left with one very strong impression: "Nice...too bad the gameplay will likely be nothing like that and will just be clubbing storm troopers futilely with your light saber." My first impression after seeing the first half of the Metal Gear Solid: Rising trailer was: "Incredible...psh, too bad it'll probably turn out lik...

Newbies check here. And if you like what you see, see my profile for the rest. http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/agent-morgan-style-movie-analysis/412667/#15 Well Zach, it seems like we've come to the end of our little adventure. Greenvale was certainly an experience, wasn't it? I think there's only one man who had a worse time passing through a small town. We first saw his...

I live in San Francisco and I was getting a burger with a buddy and I SWEAR J Allard walked in and sat down. There was no hoodie blazer, but it was the SPITTING IMAGE. Can anyone confirm? Does he live in San Francisco?

As per usual, if you haven't read the previous episodes, here's where it all began. The others can be found via my profile. http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/agent-morgan-style-movie-analysis/412667/#15 Zach, it seems we're in quite the predicament. We try to do the right thing, but there are always people who want to stop us, or even punish us. Being punished for doing the...

I'm starting to run out of movies that I can do this with off the top of my head, so if you've got a request, post it to the comments and if I know enough about the movie, I'll make it happen next week. Original post for all newcomers, you can find the other two on my profile. http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/agent-morgan-style-movie-analysis/412667/#15 Well Zach, I'm sorry...

Ah HAH! You all thought I forgot, didn't you?! Enjoy! For newcomers, there's a vague continuity here that you can see begin in these two posts: http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/agent-morgan-style-movie-analysis/412667/#15 http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/undeadpool/agent-morgan-style-movie-analysis-episode-2/30-49045/ How do you feel about board games, Zach? I'll bet they'r...

This one was actually a lot harder to write. I feel like the very positive things people had to say really raised the bar in my head. In the end, I just tried to sit down and write it. (For the first episode, check this out: http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/general-discussion/30/agent-morgan-style-movie-analysis/412667/#15 ) Enjoy! Look for another in about a week. Zach, do you remember what we...

I've been putting a lot of thought into what my next blog would be because I don't really like to talk about what's going on in my day-to-day life. I'm kind of a private person and I don't really think my life is all that exciting. But every now and then I have insights I think I can lend to something and I feel the need to. Again, as I often do, a little background on me: I didn't meet and bef...

I was playing some Brutal Legend and I got a hankering to go back and watch some of those VH1 Metal documentaries (the really awesome multi-part ones where they interview basically EVERYone from the 70s-80s metal scene), and there was something that struck me more this time around: 1) Rob Halford knows his shit. The dude is MAD informed and really clever. 2) The groups that protested metal (mos...

Videogaming (a friend of mine is trying to stop the word "gamer" from being used anymore. Long story) is at an interesting crossroad that all forms of popular media have come to at some point: straddling the line between an accepted mainstream artform and something that politicians from both sides of the spectrum want to burn in effigy for corrupting the youth of America, who everyone knows has...

Oh Fox, is there any TV show you won't ruin? The news is no longer quite hot of the internet presses, but for those who don't know: Fox has resurrected Futurama, possibly the greatest cartoon ever made, only to attempt to recast it because the voice actors want more money to return than Fox is willing to pay. This of course horrifies me as quite the die-hard fan who had to sit through texts of...

A little background on me to put this in perspective: I'm old enough to have gotten a Nintendo Entertainment System when they were new, I'm old enough to remember when $60 for a game was cheap (Kirby's Superstar for $80, folks), and I'm old enough to remember when our games didn't have age ratings on them and ESRB was just a collection of letters. I remember when being a "gamer" meant you were...
