GENERAL RAMBLING 2: THE RAMBLING CONTINUES!

Hello folks, been a while since I last sat down at my desk and wrote up a blog entry. I do enjoy writing these, even if no one will read them. But I was hoping that my short break would provide me with subjects to discuss and titles witty enough to knock the wittiest comedian to the floor. Sadly all I've realised in that month or so break, is the sad fact that I'm not a funny individual, oh and that I'll never rule over my own small island off the coast of Japan any time soon. So what is worth discussing?

Well to be honest I'm not really sure where to start, maybe I should discuss my experiences with Final Fantasy XIII (13) or how my new gaming rig is going. No, let me begin by talking about a television show I've been in absolute awe of recently. If you follow me on Twitter (which you probably don't, I don't blame you for that) then you might have heard me talk a lot about a BBC Two Science show called 'Wonders of the Solar System' fronted by the superb Professor Brian Cox. Now I like me some science, I like me some history to. But rarely are they captivating enough to be worth such praise, but Wonders of the Solar System as been something very special indeed. I've learnt more about our Universe in three episodes then I ever did in all my years of education.

Much of this praise should be directed to both Professor Brian Cox (who as a simple, but effected way of describing science) and the team behind many of the simply stunning graphical camera shots of the planets and moons in our Universe. Of course it's all computer generated, but oh boy does it look good. The series is still taking place on Sunday nights BBC Two at 9pm, but there is to be a DVD and Blu-Ray release in April and I've already got a copy pre-ordered. Not sure if it's going to be shown on BBC American any time soon, but if it is then I highly recommend you check it out. Our Universe is a stunningly beautiful, and violent place!

BUILDING A GAMING PC!
In February I started what I originally hoped would be a quick user guide to building a gaming PC, sadly I never got around to writing much more for that guide and I'm sorry about that as it seems there was some great replies concerning the subject. For a status update I'm hoping to commence building next week and will probably be documenting some of it using twitter, when I say documenting I really mean taking photo's of me excitingly putting everything together. All I need now is two simple components which I should be getting very soon, I can't wait to get building. Here is the now finished system configuration:

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case.
Motherboard: Asus P6TD Deluxe.
Processor: Intel Core i7 920.
CPU Aftermarket Cooler: Titan Fenrir SE.
Storage: 2x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3.
Graphics Card: XFX Radeon HD 5870.
Memory: 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600MHz..
DVD Drives: 2x LG Sata DVD+RW Drives.
Card Reader: Akasa Reader.
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

As you can clearly see the system is pretty much done, it's just all about getting the final two components and then the building can begin. I should note that I hope to make continuous upgrades to this system over the coming months. For example I hope to add a Intel Solid State Drive soon, the reason for not adding one now was a cost issue. I shall probably write something up concerning the new PC once it's built. I just hope that they can sort my internet out before I build as that could cause a few issues.

AND FINALLY!
Can Fermi beat ATI's 5series? Well I think that might do for this blog entry, was fun to be typing again. Hope you find something of interest in my rambling words. Don't forget that if your into PC building then this week (and onto next week) we are set to be flooded with news, reviews and so much more for Nvidia's latest offerings in the form of the GeForce GTX 470 and GTX 480 cards set to officially be launched and released within the next two weeks. While I'm excited to see what Nvidia have created, I feel that my needs as a gamer would be better served by going with ATI's offering for GPU's. I'm actually quite an Nvidia fan and have already preferred their cards over ATI's in years past, but Fermi hasn't convinced me yet and I'll wait till Nvidia get things right before making a final purchase on such a card.
