My 2020 Game of the Year

Honorable mentions go to Bioshock, Bioshock 2, and Fallout 3 because I have played those games before and beat. Except Fallout 3 which I finally beat this year, after losing my save over 10 years ago. Also played Minerva's Den for the first time really liked it, now on to the list!

28. Halo

Halo’s campaign starts off strong and I thought it would remain open and nonlinear like the early levels, however that was not the case. The level design is very dated and seeing the same environments/rooms was annoying. The controls in vehicles is also terrible. I get why people would like this for the multiplayer but the campaign is lack luster in this one. The flood also sucks.

27. Epic Mickey

I picked this one up from my old save and completed the game. I enjoyed the levels and the creativity however the controls are awkward with the wiimote and going through the side scroller levels everytime was unnecessary and just needed a fast travel to go back and forth.

26. Halo 2

Halo 2 is so much better than the first game. The levels are way better, you can duel wield, play as the covenant, but once again the campaign is still an average experience overall.

25. Halo 3

Yeah I am not a big fan of these games. Once again think it is better than the second game but this has to ruin it by bringing the flood back and it is the same in every game it doesn’t change or add anything new to the experience. I think the shooter in these games are great and the multiplayer i am sure is a lot of fun, but the campaigns are just so mediocre which is why they are low on the list.

24. Donut County

Very much enjoyed this game for a weekend liked it a lot wish there was more.

23. Inside

I had fun with this one and like the fact that it tells the story with no dialoge. I think some of the puzzles get repetitive like run to the right, now run to left, now go back to the right shows up often.

22.The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks

This it not a bad Zelda game and doesn’t deserve the shit it gets. The levels and the dungeons are very good the only thing that really slows down this game is the train aspect it just takes way to long to move around to the different areas.

21. Moonlighter

This game i need to play more off since i only ever made it to the first boss a few times, but never beat him. I will say early on seems tough everything is expensive, I hope the games curve for valuable items ramps up as it goes on.

20. Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum and Fun

I bought the game with the official controller for the Switch and really like it ton, but it is low on the list because the official controller is not sensitive enough and often doesn’t register the hits.

19. Daxter

Daxter is a solid platformer and has great levels and gameplay, it also has some great music

18. Cook, Serve, Delicious 2

I really like this game and the first one. This one expands on the first and I even enjoy the different restaurants they put in to get the gold medals. I just wish they did something for your specific restaurant rather than just using it as a quick play.

17. Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair

Really fun platformer with great level design, music, and secrets.

16. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D

I think this game it very good, but not the masterpiece people make this out to be. I think the game is too cryptic in spots and the combat is really clunky. That being said everything else about this game is really good. Also the water temple isn’t that bad guys.

15. Super Mario 64

This game like Ocarina people enjoy for nostalgia. I got all 120 stars and had a lot of fun playing the game for the first time. That being said the levels and overall design is dated from the controls and the camera. And guys there are a lot of bad levels in this game, my god.

14. Super Mario Sunshine

I really don’t think this game is as bad as people make it out to be. All the frustrating levels that people talk about I didn’t really have a problem with. I actually like the jetpack and it makes Mario a lot of fun to control. The early levels and shines in the games are better than the later ones. I would like to do a whole of review of this game since people make this game out to be the worst Mario game when its actually not and I would play this over 64 any day.

13. Super Mario Galaxy

Yes these 3 games are good just not my favorite. I think Galaxy is the best of the 3 in terms of level design and gameplay. The only issue I had was the controls at times can get in the way and the motion parts while there are few of them aren’t great.

12. Yoku’s Island Express

This game is fantastic! Love the puzzles, and the gameplay. Such a neat idea for a game and executes it very well.

11. Shadow Complex

I had a lot of fun with this one solid Metroidvania style game

10. Forager

Yup was a addicted to this one for a few weeks very simple game and does a great job making you want to see what is the next piece of land you are going to add to your island.

9. Planet Coaster

Got this game at the beginning of the lockdown and one that I want to go back and play. I got addict to it for only a week, but making my small little Pirate theme park was a blast, so many customization options and looking at tutorials was a lot of fun. Definitely will go back had to delete off my laptop due space issues.

8. Castlevania Symphony of the Night

This game really is as great as everyone says it is and lived up to my expectations unlike Mario 64, Halo and Ocarina of Time. A lot of fun to roam around the castle, level up, and find the secrets. Only issue I have is it is very tedious roaming around the castle when you are back tracking the movement is a tad slow.

7. Golf Story

What a great game! Simple golf game with great writing and gameplay. I am excited to see what they do with Sports story. I think the game is just a tad too long.

6. Super Mario RPG

Great RPG game that started it all. Thought that it would be dated like some of the other games on this list, but it totally wasn’t! I definitely had some hard fights but overall a fun RPG.

5. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

So, spoilers but this isn’t the best Zelda game I played this year nor do I think it is the best Zelda ever. This game is a really good game, but not a good Zelda game. I did not like the combat it is very clunky. Every said that they loved the exploration, but I found most of the world to just be dead and a lot of empty space. Having he 4 core dungeons the same aesthetic was also just a poor choice and disappointing. But why do I like the game, because it is a lot of fun to play overall and had a great time with it even with the flaws.

4. Animal Crossing New Horizons

I really like this game played it almost every day this year. It a joy and pleasure to look at and experience. I wish the game was faster with everything you did and I really with the awards you get for completing parts of the museum were actually worth while and they just felt like a slap in the face.

3. The Last of Us Part 2

This game is really really good guys. The core gameplay is better than the first game and a lot more fun to play. I enjoyed the story a whole lot as well and not to mention the visuals in this game are phenomenal. I do think it does overstay is welcome a bit and find it insane that the fanbase of the first game turned on this game without a bat of the eye.

2. The Legend of Zelda Minish Cap

This is the best Zelda game and everyone should play it. The dungeons and levels are fantastic in this game, the gameplay for 2D is perfect and there is a ton of side activities to do and explore if you chose to do so.

1. Call of Duty Warzone

Warzone picked up where Apex Legends left off for me. The core Call of Duty shooting is already great and added great ideas onto the battle royal Genre. The fact that there is a shop and you can keep buying your teammates back and the gulag are excellent additions. I also play this game with my friends where as in Apex I played solo queue and my friends and i are still having a blast playing this game and getting our first win felt sooo good. The only thing that they need to do to make this better is make the ping system better and easy to read as well as making it easier to read and see there your teammates are.
