Looking For Some Feedback On My Short Essay

by natetodamax

Hey dudes, so for school we had a writing prompt. The prompt was "If you could only tell one story about something that matters to you, what would it be?" Anyway, I was wondering if I could get some feedback on my work. I normally wouldn't ask the internet for something like this, but Giant Bomb seems like a mature enough community to handle it. Plus, I was really confused about the prompt and spent a lot of time finishing it today, so some of it might not make sense. Without further ado, here it is:

As the last zombie fell, I pumped my fist triumphantly into the air and at that moment, I knew that we were victorious. I looked around and noticed that my epic zombie team had survived the onslaught, and mangled infected bodies covered the ground. We reloaded our weapons and were about to continue our journey when a window shattered behind us. Swinging around, we watched in horror as another vicious horde of the undead wandered out, moaning at the top of their lungs and swinging their arms every which way. We realized we were completely out of ammo and had inserted empty clips into our weapons, so we remained standing where we were and awaited our inevitable doom.
It's this conspicuous love for not only the undead but for anything that is considered insane or over the top that inspires me to have such a crazy imagination. On a boring day, I sit at home dreaming up intense and sometimes ridiculous situations, putting myself in them, and thinking, “would I survive?” Having been enthralled and utterly fascinated in the zombie culture through books, movies, and other forms of media, I can easily picture the scenarios down to the smallest detail and be able to walk through them unscathed. Well, most of the time anyway.
I think one of the things that I love about zombies most is the fact that a walking corpse just seems so awesome in a way that is really indescribable. Seeing a deceased human come back to life only to slowly swagger towards you in an attempt to rip your face off must surely be an entertaining sight, if you can get over the fact that your life is in danger. Even more amusing is when you show the zombie who's boss by dispatching it in a variety of ways, most of which end in grotesque blasts of meat and red mist depending on the weapon you are currently using.
As I sit there thinking about the most awesome zombie related situation, I remember one of the most important parts of survival: having a zombie team. Ah, that's right! How could I have forgotten? Surely I can't think that I would be able to survive on my own, even if I was amazingly strong and durable. I need someone to back me up in the most hectic situations. Jack Sullivan* seems like a plausible choice. In fact, he's probably the only person I would need with me when the invasion begins.
I think that the general idea of someone dying and coming back to life and attacking people is so over the top that many choose not the believe in them. As I'm sitting here, I'm wondering about why people believe in ghosts and apparitions, but not the undead. Surely you cannot think that the spirit of a deceased person can walk about the house or area that they died in and proceed to torment anyone that comes near. That is clearly preposterous. All it takes is a disease or some other kind of infection to turn a body into a living nightmare. Everyone knows that. But a spirit leaving a body and walking around? Really?
You may be questioning why zombies matter so much to me. There are several answers to that question, with the simplest one being that they are just the coolest things ever. The long answer is that the zombie apocalypse is just another thing to look forward to in life, and it's probably one of the coolest things to be hyped for. It will mark the first time in history that every human in the world actually gets along for once and bands together against a single opposition that is threatening the very existence of mankind. It will mark the first time that we stop all of the fighting over nonsensical things “who took the last cookie from the jar?” and “he pushed me first!” None of that will matter once the zombies arrive. And that single idea, the idea that everyone on planet Earth joins together in battle to save our world from a most violent and brutal end, is great.
