The pool awakesBut now the peaceful times come to an end as the Pools of Radiance awaken anew and begin to drain away the life energy from Phlan. Elminster, the great mage, announces in front of the great council of Phlan that new heroes who are able to fight against the evil and seal the Pools of Radiance are needed.I decide to start off with the tutorial before playing the main game. Better safe than sorry. The tutorial features four example characters for me to control and a text window which tells me that a dungeon master will give me instructions via text message. The first instruction I am given is to move the character who associates with the green character bar on the lower screen to a certain point in the starting room. Because I’m colorblind and it’s not easy for me to distinguish the green and the yellow character bar I choose the wrong character and move him around the room which doesn’t has any effect whatsoever. Thinking that it might be a bug in the tutorial I start over again. On my second try I realize that it isn’t enough to just move the character in question around, but to move him to a specific point in that room. I curse myself and do as I was asked to.
The tutorial character groupFinally the tutorial continues by letting me know that it isn’t necessary to move all characters at once. By clicking on a specific character bar I can choose to only move a single character if I want to do so. During the next 5 minutes I let the text window explain to me how I can choose a group leader. After searching the option menu for a way to increase the game’s graphic resolution and finding none, I accept playing the game with the shoddy graphics it has. After wandering a bit, a NPC suddenly appears and let’s my group know that some NPCs will talk to them if they get near them. Furthermore she tells them that they can answer via multiple choice and that those answers must be chosen wisely because they effect how the story advances. I choose to ask her what she’s doing in those cave in which we are. She tells me that’s none of my business. I tell her farewell. She responds that I didn’t ask what kind of consequences the answers I choose during multiple choice can have, but I’ll probably find out soon enough.
KellanFurthermore she lets me know that she will be silent now and will observe how I will finish the tutorial without her help. What a bitch. I decide to save and call it a day.
