Why do videogames appeal to me more than other mediums?

Ok so it's midnight and I just finished playing a TDM match in Modern Warfare 2. I just thought to myself, "How come I am not watching television or doing something else?". I have other hobbies other than videogames, like anime and reading but there is something about videogames that I never get tired of. 
 
I can safely say I am addicted to videogames. If you look at my collection on my lists page you can see for yourself, even now as I am writing this thing I am listening to A Life Well Wasted and just before that the latest 4 Guy 1 Up. My RSS feed is filled to the max all with videogame podcasts (12 to be exact) and I visit Kotaku, Giantbomb, N4G, Destructiod and any other videogame site you can think of, daily. Videogames are just something that come with me everywhere I go. There are times when I watch television I am saying to myself "This is boring", not because the content isn't worthwhile but it is not very engaging. A thing I find with videogames is the fact that I am controlling the main characters movements in a epic journey is much more fun than say watching the same story without any interaction. I'm almost positive that if I took some of my favorite videogame stories and put them into a television series or movie I would not enjoy them as much.
 
Maybe I like videogames because I am just a weird person. I have never been a fan of the more "popular" activities of drinking or sports. It's always been more appealing to me to hunker down with a good videogame than to go out to and play football. Don't get me wrong, playing sports is super fun, but if a new videogame comes out and my friend asks me to play tennis, I'm going to dive into that game. Videogames just seem more original than anything else. As I look through my stack of PS2 games I see experiences that I would never get anywhere else, games such as Godhand, Killer 7, Psychonauts, Katamari Damacy just to name a few. Stories and experiences I would never be able to experience in television or movies.
 
It seems like I am getting no closer to finding out why I like videogames way more than any other activity, or maybe the awnser is hidden inside this blog and I am just to blind to see it. All I can think of is that videogames give me an experience that no other medium can provide. Sure I can get a great story from a book but I can interact with that book other than using my imagination. 
 
Does anyone else feel this way or is it just me?
