Ok I wanted to get this off my chest before I wrote my Mercenaries 2 review I really don't think that Gamespot is that much of credible site anymore. Let me just start off by saying I was with Gamespot back when they had Jeff, Ryan, Rich, and Greg and even after they left or got fired or whatever I still enjoyed Gamespot until about when Vinny left but I am getting to the point now when I read...
Ok I wanted to get this off my chest before I wrote my Mercenaries 2 review I really don't think that Gamespot is that much of credible site anymore. Let me just start off by saying I was with Gamespot back when they had Jeff, Ryan, Rich, and Greg and even after they left or got fired or whatever I still enjoyed Gamespot until about when Vinny left but I am getting to the point now when I read certain reviews I think what were they thinking. Now I know reviews are opinions but I think you should take some consideration of what the average gamer would think in the review so when in Aaron Thomas's review of Mercenaries 2 he says at one point "Really, the only fun to be had with Mercenaries 2 is in playing cooperatively with a friend online" now really you think that it is pretty hard to have fun in Mercenaries singleplayer. In this post I'm not going to post what I think about Mercenaries 2 really since I am saving it for my review but I don't feel it is hard to have fun in Mercenaries 2 it is pretty easy in my opinion. I know when reviewing a game you have to be critical in spots and the difference between someone reviewing a game rather than buying it and playing it in their spare time but I did find some bugs in Mercenaries 2 and they are noticeable but none of them really hampered my fun or enjoyment with the game. Also the Mercenaries 2 review isn't the only problem I have had with Gamespot lately, the Too Human review also was a little off. I didn't play the full version of Too Human but I played the demo and from listening to podcasts and reading reviews it didn't really seem to deserve a 5.5. Now since I didn't play Too
Human I am not qualified to make judgements about Too Human but it seems more like a 6.5 or 7 game. I also don't really put the blame on the journalists there either because I agree with most reviews but I think the management at Gamespot or whoever the journalists have to check their review with is part of the issue. I mean I don't want to go into Jeff and why he was layed off from gamespot since there is no credible info about it and it is personal but I wouldn't be suprised if one of the bosses at gamespot or management members think contraversy would get them more website visits. Now I know that could be so far away from the truth but it is just a thought. Now I think the journalists at Gamespot are good just random at times, I think they should take into consideration of average gamers or hardcore gamers since saying that the singleplayer in Mercenaries 2 is hard to have fun with may be true to Aaron but I bet any average gamer won't have trouble having fun with Mercenaries 2 singleplayer. I think it is time for Gamespot to get a new rating scale because sites like 1up and Giantbomb are really smart with there 5 star rating scale and A-F reviewing scale since most gamers don't feel like reading reviews for non triple a title games they just look at the score,s and when games like Too Human and Mercenaries 2 get scores like 5 and 5.5 which is average in term of Gamespot's rating scale most gamers think they are bad games or pre-judge them. I just think Gamespot should get a new rating scale and also let Kevin Van Ord have a break I mean get some new journalists or freelancers to review games for you since that is alot of work for him and might mess with him writing new reviews.
I just wanted to air my thoughts out about Gamespot since have alot of room for improvement.
My next blog after my Mercenaries 2 review will be about my worry's for Guitar Hero World Tour because man am I worried about that game.
