Tis the time that the lists of everyone's favorite games are created and shared with the world. Here at giantbomb.com the crew does a great job of sharing with everyone their personal lists, guest lists, and the overall site's top games with articles and podcasts that will give you too much to consume.

Now it's my turn, and this year besides just doing my list for the community's top games or even just a normal list as a blog, I'm also going to try and name my top games for the categories that the GB crew also listed. Why? Well, cause I have nothing better to do. Here goes.

2017's Old Game of the Year

Best Shop Keeper

  1. Amazon.com (honestly I don't know of any of the top of my head)

Best Looking Game

  1. Cuphead
  2. Battlefront 2
  3. Horizon Zero Dawn

Best Multiplayer

  1. Battlefront 2 (honestly I don't play many multiplayer games and this is the only one I've played the most of and still do)
  2. Call of Duty WW2
  3. Tom Clancy's Wildlands

Hottest Mess

  1. Battlefront 2
  2. Destiny 2
  3. Mass Effect Andromeda

Best Surprise

  1. Life is Strange Before the Storm (this game shouldn't have existed, but it did. And it was great. But more on that later)
  2. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (I saw this in the Playstation Store every so often, but didn't know what it was. Then it came out and I fell in love with it)
  3. Night in the Woods (This wasn't on my radar until the Quick Look, and then I fell in love. Can't. Stop. Jumping!)

Best Music

  1. Life is Strange Before the Storm (There is a theme going on here. The soundtrack just fits everything so well in this game.)
  2. Persona 5 (Not the biggest fan of the game, but the music is great)
  3. Wolfenstein 2 (It just made me want to kill Nazis)

Best World

  1. Life is Strange Before the Storm (I just love Arcadia Bay so much)
  2. Horizon Zero Dawn
  3. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Amazin world, not so amazing playing in it though)

Please Stop

  1. EA (Haven't you caused enough damage already?)
  2. Poor communication (Looking at you Bungie and EA. Stop with the PR speak and be honest with your customers. They're the ones that keep you going, and if you keep on screwing up then they will make you pay).
  3. Crappy Internet Gamers (Someone died because of swatting this year. There was a line that was already crossed earlier, and now it can't even see where that line was. Grow up people.)

Best Wolfenstein II Moment

  1. Anya killing Nazi's While Topless and Covered in Blood (Ok, so this scene was just so dumb that when I saw it I couldn't stop laughing. It's just, wow. That's all I can say).
  2. Audition for Hitler (Eff you Hitler!)
  3. Death of BJ (A heist scene about getting someone's head cut off. Impressive)

Best Moment or Sequence

  1. The Play in Life is Strange Before the Storm (Just so good. Had me in tears)
  2. DnD Games in Life is Strange Before the Storm (There are technically two in the game if things go a certain way, and they are both just so fun. The fact that you can miss the second one actually made me sad in my second playthough)
  3. The last scene in Life is Strange Before the Storm (Damn you Nathan and Mr. Jefferson)

Best Debut

  1. Night in the Woods
  2. Cuphead (While not my type of game, the fact that they pulled that style off in a good game is amazing)
  3. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (Looks great, plays fine, and that story just made me not want to stop)

Best New Character

  1. Rachel Amber (Ok, the character isn't actually new as she existed in the first Life is Strange, but in Before the Storm you actually get to meet her and you find out why Chloe is so determined to find her).
  2. Greg - Night in the Woods (GREG!!!!)
  3. Senua - Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Best Story

  1. Life is Strange Before the Storm (It didn't have any right to be as good as it was. The fact that I like it more than the first Life is Strange is a testament to how good it is.)

  3. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Best Super Mario Odyssey Capture

Ok this is just a silly category that I have no answer for.

Best Cast of Characters

  1. Life is Strange Before the Storm (Chloe and Rachel rock, but the introduction of Steph and Mikey had me invested in them too. I want to know more about Steph!!!)
  2. Night in the Woods (Greg!!!!)
  3. Wolfenstein II

Worst Game of the Year

Mass Effect Andromeda (You killed it! You killed it you bastards!!!)

  1. Agents of Mayhem (This game is so boring and bad. Everything about it is just such a huge let down.)
  2. Drawn to Death (Just looking at the quick look of this game made me want to throw up)

Game of the Year

1. Life is Strange: Before the Storm

If you looked through the rest of the lists, this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. I loved Before the Storm. This game had so much against it. It was to tell the story of how Chloe and Rachel became friends (or more than friends), a story a lot of people thought didn't need to be told. It didn't have a lot of the voice actors from the first LiS, including Ashley Burch who played Chloe, because of the voice actor strike. And it was done by a different developer than DONTNOD.

None of that held Before the Storm back though. The story was something that to me exceeded the story in the first LiS game. It answered questions of why Chloe was who she was in the first game. Why she acted the way she did towards Max, why she was so determined to find Rachel, and why she was such a strong person.

And then there was Rachel Amber. Someone that all you knew of in the first game was that she was missing and her and Chloe were close. But they were more than just friends. She was everything to Chloe. The thing that pulled Chloe out of the hole left by her dad dying and Max leaving for Seattle. She made Chloe who she was.

There are so many things that I can go on about this game. The DnD games, the music, the play, the rest of the characters, but that will take forever. This game made me so happy and so sad that there is nothing that comes close to this game in 2017.
