The latest generation of gamers shouldn't even know who Sega 's beloved mascot is. Erase from your mind the entire 16-bit era, and what memories of Sonic are you left with? Maybe the graphical leap made by the DreamCast at the launch of the console, but since then the only waves Sonic has made has been with fanboys reacting to the horrible reviews and gameplay. We all have high hopes for Sonic...

The latest generation of gamers shouldn't even know who Sega's beloved mascot is. Erase from your mind the entire 16-bit era, and what memories of Sonic are you left with? Maybe the graphical leap made by the DreamCast at the launch of the console, but since then the only waves Sonic has made has been with fanboys reacting to the horrible reviews and gameplay.

We all have high hopes for Sonic Unleashed but as more and more gameplay is shown, the more it looks like the same recent story. Maybe the 8-bit revival that Mega Man is enjoying is the way to go for the Sonic franchise. There isn't a mascot I want to like more than Sonic or a company I'd like to see reinvent itself more than Sega.

Right now, though, it looks like that day will never come.
