Space Oddity Quest Stats

OK, admission time. I haven't played Dead Space, nor do I have much interest in it, since I'm not much into games that scare the crap out of me. I also didn't think this community quest had an XP bonus attached to its success, so I was spending the last half-hour or so thinking up of things I could do as a reward of sorts if we succeeded. Turns out we'll get 1,000 bonus XP if the 3,500 threshold is met by January 30th. Whoops! I should do my research a lot sooner.

That means I'm at a bit of a loss in the "creative way to post stats" department this week. Hopefully you won't mind that too much. I could think up something to give away still, but now that I think about it, that's a bit cliche now, since it seems everybody's giving something away. I know I've jumped on that bandwagon in the past. (That might be a hint about something from last week's stats that  I hid, by the way. I probably hid it far too well.)

Enough pointless rambling! Have a graph.

Space Oddity Final Progress The yellow line at the top is the 3,500 completion threshold, the red line is the average minimum pace required for success, and the green line is our progress over the duration of the quest.

We failed! Not surprising, but I am surprised that we finished closer to the goal than expected. Had 94-95 (I'll say 95 based on my last reading) more users finished this set, we'd all be rolling in extra XP. Perhaps you should find 95 people on the site who didn't complete this quest, and give them what for!

On second thought, let's just move on and prepare for the next set.

Some stats as of the latest graph:
  • The quest lasted 130.6 hours. We were then summarily eaten by "necromorphs or something."
  • 3,405 completions were attained, falling short of our goal by 95 completions. We gained 197 completions over the final day, which is a 15.9% gain from the previous day's activity. Close, but failure nevertheless.
  • During this set, we needed to beat 26.79 completions per hour in order to succeed.
  • Our average rate overall was 26.1 completions per hour. We fell short by 0.73 completions per hour.
  • At my final data update, our short-term rate was about 8.3 completions per hour.
  • Every estimate fell short in predicting Space Oddity's final total. Perhaps the weekend (or being so close to the goal) brought about a slight uptick in completions.
  • There's a chance I may have missed a 3,406th person to complete this set before the deadline. I'm sure RagingWolf will be disappointed by his omission, but it's doesn't affect the stats enough to matter.
  • Space Oddity remains even with the progress of Monster Mash, as it had over the last few days. Here's a quest comparison graph:
Quest Comparison as of Space Oddity
  • That's actually not bad progress. It also means Space Oddity's the second most-completed quest to fail its community challenge component.

If you have any questions, requests, or criticisms, you know what to do. Any thoughts are always appreciated!

I'll have another thread up the next time one of these sets comes around (by the sounds of it, next week). Until then, I hope you enjoyed reading. Seriously. I know I rarely say anything in return to a lot of replies, but the praise and comments are taken very dearly to heart. Basically: Y'all rock.
