When we were relegated to sitting at home needing to entertain ourselves at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us turned to building home theaters. Reports show that, by 2027, the home theater market will reach $3.88 billion. Whether through a dedicated “theater room” in one’s home or just a killer set-up in the living room, interest in immersive home theater experiences has grown.

Dreamedia has emerged as a premier destination for all things home theater-related. Founder and CEO Zachary Geringer started his career in the AV industry as just a tech enthusiast. “I always had a passion for just really good quality audio,” Geringer told the Action and Ambition podcast.
In college, Geringer parlayed that passion into a 36-speaker array in his Frisco, Texas home — a set-up that led to several noise-violation visits from local authorities. Not deterred, Geringer’s passion for premium AV grew.
With Dreamedia, Geringer now crafts cutting-edge systems for customers, scaling the business into a national force to reckon with — no small feat in an industry dominated by powerhouses such as Crutchfield. “Now, we are a source for high-quality brands that no one else offers,” he says. “Our approach is sophisticated, exclusive, and passionate about the industry.”
High-end home theaters and sound systems
As technology improves, the high-end home theater and sound system landscape is constantly changing. Where once a drop-down screen and a big, bulky projector were the height of luxury, there is now a range of options for any size space and most budgets. Dreamedia carries a range of well-known home theater and sound brands, including AV-enthusiast favorites such as Sonos, Marantz, Barco, and Perlisten.
“We’ve had an influx of people who really want to take their home theater experience to the next level,” explains Geringer. “We help homeowners not only with their theater set-ups, but distributed audio as well. That’s a big part of our business — indoor, outdoor, every nook-and-cranny of the home.”
To Geringer, what separates quality systems from just “loud speakers” is distribution. He hopes his customers can hear what they’re watching or listening to clearly throughout their entire home.
High-end home theaters and sound systems are popular with new home builders and a well-to-do market, but Geringer stresses they cater to all price points and most budgets. With as fast as things improve in the AV world, Geringer and his team must be consistently on the cutting edge to keep up with client demand — regardless of price point.
“Back in 2012, surround sound formats weren’t what they are today. A Dolby Digital 7.1 system was the peak of home entertainment systems,” says Geringer. “Today we are doing some insane setups. The whole industry has changed. We are doing some super innovative stuff.”
Entering e-commerce
Dreamedia has recently dipped its toe into the e-commerce waters, with exciting results. “With the e-commerce platform, customers can see the products from our YouTube install videos and simply add to cart, swipe right, and it’ll ship right out,” Geringer explains.
The entry into e-commerce has been a game-changer for the company. The website offers a one-stop shop for the whole range of products Dreamedia offers, as well as videos and product reviews for consumers. Though there can be an issue of option overload for customers, the AV experts at Dreamedia are on hand to help guide consumer decisions and design the best set-ups for their individual needs.
Most recently, Dreamedia hosted the “Man Cave Makeover” YouTube series, an ultimate home theater giveaway that conveniently links every piece of equipment used to the e-commerce site for easy purchase.
While home theaters got a massive boost from the pandemic shutdown, advancements in technology are turning average homeowners into AV enthusiasts, even as the pandemic has waned. Many saw the benefits of a high-end system, with Netflix and other streaming services gaining popularity.
Going forward, Geringer and the team at Dreamedia are branching out into social media marketing and building their e-commerce footprint. “Social media changed the game for us,” Geringer explains.
Turning a passion into a successful business — one that recently celebrated a decade in providing high-end AV — has been a dream endeavor for Geringer. Now, he spends his days making other people’s dreams a reality.
