It's my Birthday! Time for a Blog post

If popular culture is to be believed, I’m on the verge of a mid-life crisis! Today marks my 30th birthday, and while I’m somewhat happy about it—I do enjoy the attention and celebration—it feels different this year. As a teen or younger adult, I couldn’t imagine not going all out for my birthday. I’d plan nights out, meet people, get a little too drunk, and end the day in a cozy bed, maybe with a fresh joint waiting for me. Even with my awkward birthday timing (seven days before Christmas), I always found a way to make it happen. Now, all I really want is to go home, boot up Fortnite or Marvel Rivals, and turn off my brain for a while. No worries about money, food, or family management—just a few hours of pretending the world is as simple as a fun game and a few beers.
I can’t help but wonder what I’d do if money weren’t an issue. If I could truly celebrate, I’d probably head to TopGolf, try some go-karting, or hit up a poker or blackjack table somewhere—nothing too serious. Food wouldn’t even matter that much, as long as there were tacos and a case of beer nearby. Unfortunately, this year is a little different. Between being laid off earlier, going through chemo, and now recovering, I just want a day to unplug and not stress about anything, especially money. Thankfully, I’m working again and even got my first paycheck today. But, of course, most of it went straight to bills and catching up on Christmas shopping. What a world.
When it comes to gaming, I’m most excited about what’s coming to Fortnite. Leaks suggest Mariah Carey, Skibidi Toilet, and some classic DC skins are returning to the shop, along with the holiday event on December 20th. What a time to be alive! I’m definitely grabbing the Skibidi emote and maybe Mariah Carey too so i can continue my descent into true brainrot status. Also of note is the Marvel Rivals winter event, which I have yet to spend money on, but I may end up getting the battle pass at least.
As for non-gaming plans, I’ve got my eye on Play Nice by Jason Schreier, and I’m finishing Dearly Devoted Dexter, the second book in the Dexter series. The books are short but engaging, and with nine in total, they’ll keep me busy for a while. I’m also considering revisiting The Witcher series, especially since Witcher 4 has been announced. I was so close to finishing the first book, and the writing is absolutely fantastic. I’ll also need to reactivate my Kindle Unlimited subscription—there are a few books on there I’ve been meaning to get back to.
I’m still stretching my writing muscles, so I’m not sure how to wrap this up. Suffice to say, this year’s lead-up to the holidays feels a little off thanks to some unexpected curveballs. But I’ll keep moving forward—there’s a family to lead, work to be done, and a much-needed holiday break on the horizon.
