My 5 days at the NJPW LA Dojo: Day 4

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 March 29, 2018: Day 4 was the first time I had slept in an actual bed all week. I woke up sore as hell again, to the point where walking up and down the stairs was an adventure in its own right. Ric and I went to Walmart and Subway for food that day, then headed to training. Day 3

March 29, 2018: Day 4 was the first time I had slept in an actual bed all week. I woke up sore as hell again, to the point where walking up and down the stairs was an adventure in its own right. Ric and I went to Walmart and Subway for food that day, then headed to training. Training was mostly more workouts, and continuing to build on what we did the previous days. Rolls, bumps, running ropes, lockups, headlocks, and things of that nature were the agenda for the whole week. After yet another intense training session, all the students and coaches sat down and had Chankonabe (a traditional Japanese stew served over rice) together at the dojo as a bonding experience. The food was great and the experience was about what you would expect from gathering 40 people in a room for a meal, only this room was full of wrestlers. A few hours after Chanko, Ric wanted to try some more American cuisine and eventually we decided to go to a Chick-Fil-A. On the way, we had some conversations about differences between our two homelands. This was my first real interaction with someone from another country, so during our conversation, I kept using American measurements like an idiot. Once we got there I begrudgingly ate but Ric fell in love with it and bought 2 more sandwiches (On top of the politics, I find Chick-Fil-A to be wildly overpriced for just how mediocre it is. It's 6/10 food at a 9/10 price. Here's one of the many ways to make a far superior version). On the way back to the motel, we talked some more about the differences between Australia and the United States. Eventually, the conversation ended up on the political events happening in the world. Getting the perspective of someone looking at this country from the outside was a cool experience in and of itself. After we got back, we both went to sleep for the night.

  • Day 4 Training:
  • Stretches
  • 5 sets of 20 Japanese burpees (The jumping squats I described yesterday only you do a Hindu pushup before jumping back up to standing. Probably the most intense single workout I have ever done)
  • Partner up: Wheelbarrow pushup walk around ring, switching at each corner.
  • Rolls
  • Bumps
  • Ropes
  • Lockups
  • Headlocks/Shoot off/Shoulder tackle
  • End of training
