HITMAN World of Assassination Cross-Progression is Live, and You Should Set It Up

If you can believe it, at the time of writing this we are a mere 3 weeks shy of Hitman (2016)'s 10th anniversary. As I reflect on the last decade of wild contortions and rampant murder, few things in life put a smile on my face and a tingle in my stomach like the introductory melody of a new mission when dropping into Paris. The wonderfully familiar voice of Diana Burnwood welcomes you to the fold, while the deep thumping of the fashion show music invites you inside the palace.

"Has anybody seen Sheikh Zanzibar?"

If you're like me, you've invested hundreds of hours into the modern Hitman trilogy; and if you're like me you also probably bought Hitman (2016) on Steam, imported your save data to Hitman 2 in 2018, and then purchased Hitman 3 on the Epic Games Store because it was a 1-year timed exclusive, remember those? The process of bringing your Hitman 1 + 2 progress into Hitman 3 was rickety and obtuse, but it got the job done for those of us unwilling to wait a full year to play the trilogy's conclusion on Steam.

Seeing a full list of completed challenges next to each Destination in the menu is as rewarding as Platinum Trophy or Xbox Live Achievement.

In 2022 Hitman 3 released on Steam at long last, and if you're still like me, you regretted your words and deeds. The daunting thought of unlocking everything again on Steam was a bitter pill to swallow and even though I preferred it as a platform, the thought of abandoning my progression kept me coming back to the Epic Games Launcher.

Much to our surprise, IO Interactive gave this series legs beyond our wildest expectations, in the form of Elusive Targets, new Challenges, and the absolutely sensational Freelancer mode in 2023. Hitman VR, The Steam Deck, and a load of other updates and tweaks within the unified HITMAN World of Assassination gave ample reasons to keep coming back.

Lastly - if you're still like me, you're also lazy, and the thought of setting up cross-progression now that it's here is just inconvenient enough that you'll do it tomorrow, or maybe the next day. The process is much improved from the dreadful Hitman 2 to 3 import utility. There's a streamlined dashboard that lets you connect and disconnect your IO Interactive account to the various platforms that HITMAN World of Assassination is available.

There are a few caveats to consider, because nothing in life is perfect (except for Sapienza). Rather than aggregating all of the content and unlocks from all of the linked accounts, you must instead choose a primary platform account to be the baseline source account which your cross-progression will begin with. Once designated, the linked accounts will synchronize with the primary platform and the furthest progression of the main account will be made available to the other connected platforms.

As described in the guide, making progress on any of the connected platforms will in turn update the progression on the primary account. The cost of this update comes at the expense of the temporary disabling of save games on the connected platform which are not the primary. Be sure to take that into consideration before proceeding with enabling. Thankfully, the process is reversible, and IO Interactive provide an easy way to enable/disable cross-progression on a platform-by-platform basis.

Configuring cross-progression is as easy as clicking the button and then launching the game; easy peasy.
