The Star Wars games I love. You might not.

Star Wars 7 is coming, and a new Battlefront game. Seems as good a time as any to talk about my favorite Star Wars games. There are LOADS of Star Wars games. Shooters, RPGS, RTS, Racing and then there is the “Game based on LEGOS, that are based off of a 3D CGI TV show which is based off a 2D animated TV show, which is based off a series of Sci-Fi films” The Human Centipede of Licensed video gam...

Too be fair I actually enjoyed the LEGO Star Wars games, but they are far from my favorite Star Wars games. So what ARE my favorite Star Wars games?? Well..
#5: Star Wars:Demolition (PS1/Dreamcast)
There’s so much cannon being broken here, you can actually hear some fans crying..
This game was made by the same studio who brought us “Vigilante 8” which was also a GREAT game. (Though I was always more a Twisted Metal 2 kind of guy..) It was…pretty much Vigilante, re skinned as Star Wars. But damn it worked.
Partially due to the game-play,and partially due to the bat-shit crazy awesome combatants you could play as. You had your more basic ones like a tank thing from Episode 1.

Or a speeder, like the one Luke cruised in while he picked up Rodian bitches on Tatooine.

But then someone at Studio got drunk and starting making decisions. And instead of telling that person to sober up and shut up, they listened to him and did everything he asked. Which means we get the ability to play as a Rancor.
What do you mean you can’t put a penis on him?!Im not drunk, and you don’t know anything about pixels!
Or a Podracer, you know those vehicles designed for high speed racing and NOT combat at all.

Or how about my favorite. In a game about vehicles and large creatures fighting, our drunk game producer decided on Bobba Fett. Not in his ship mind you, just Bobba Fett by himself.
So what if he doesn't have a vehicle. You don’t get to be at the top of the bounty hunter business with out risking your ass! Now bring MORE whiskey.
#4: Star Wars:Republic Commando
Sometimes you want a smart, deep game, with character development and complex story telling. Then other times you just want to blow shit up, tactically.

Star Wars:Republic Commando is set between Episode 2 and Episode 3. It tells the tale of a squad of elite bad-ass clone troopers, doing elite bad-ass stuff. It also is one of my favorite shooters I’ve ever played. Why?
Well for one it looks gorgeous, or did, when it was released. It also had nice little touches. I still vividly remember when your visor got covered in alien blood or robot oil, a laser wiper sliding across and cleaning it.
Not only that, but the easy to use squad commands were satisfying as hell to use. Being able to set up a team of 3, in less then a minute, then experiencing a HUGE wave of enemies and barely surviving was one of the best shooter experiences Iv’e had.
Finally, don’t forget the unique and dark art style. As Lucasarts (RIP) said when hyping the game, “Its Star Wars from the eyes of a soldier, not the eyes of a Jedi like the films.” This means the player sees a dark and less pristine Star Wars universe, and that’s cool. Just like this game.
Also you go to Kashyyk, the Wookie home-world and watch a big-ass Wookie commander kick Trandoshan ass. If that sentence made sense to you and you like Rainbow Six, play this game.
#3: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Slightly redundant title excused, this is a terrific game, that blends FPS elements and melee elements together into one fun as hell experience.

Built with the Quake 3 engine, Jedi Knight II was the story of Kyle Katarn. He was a mercenary then became a Jedi then stop being a Jedi, then became one again. Then sort of stopped, and then became a teacher at the Jedi Academy.
Rumors are he did it to avoid paying the high Jedi Union Membership fees. Asshole.
I have fond memories of playing this game. Then after about 10 minutes going on to Gamewinners.com to unlock the Lightsaber right away. Why? I wanted to cut Stormtroopers up.
Now the sequel,Jedi Academy is not a bad game, but it is a bit TOO big for its own good. I say stick to Jedi Outcast II. But I also say KoToR is overrated, and won’t appear on this list…soo…fuck me.
#2: Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles (PS1)

Full disclosure, I know this game is REALLY not worth a number 2 spot on my list, or any “Best of” list. But, there’s more memories tied to this game then pretty much any other Star Wars games, for me. This game was fun!
Probably still holds up, haven’t played it in over a decade. (Psst... it doesn't hold up..)
But who cares, at the time this was amazing. It still is, in my mind.
Just like how, in my mind, this line and character never happened..
The game was a action brawler, basically. It had co-op. You could play as Obi Wan, Mace “MotherFUCKING Samuel L.Jackson” Windau, or other well know Jedis like Ki-Adi Mundi, or Plo Koon or Aki Aridii. (One of those is made up. Good luck.)
I really remember the game being hard, like took me and my brother weeks to pass the first level hard. And of course, no continues or saves. You play, you die, you start over. I never did get past the 3rd level without using cheat codes.
Regardless, the fun and excitement me and my brother had playing this game is why I HAVE to put it on my list. I have too.
#1: Star Wars:Battlefront 2
So, here it is. THE Star Wars game. The Game that I put over 200 hundred hours into, and still to this day play. STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2.

Sure, its pretty much BF1942 with Star Wars characters and locations. Sure, the AI was really stupid, and still some how WAY too accurate. And sure, graphically its nothing compared to 1313, or Unleashed. But what is important is the game play. Which is superb.
Playing as the different factions and classes is insanely fun. The maps are built to allow each class to be useful and the classes themselves are balanced and different enough that its fun to experiment, not frustrating.
Plus you can play as “Heroes” and “Villians” like Obi-Wan, Anakin, Darth Maul, and even Yoda. Not to mention you can play as ALL of them in a Team Deathmatch style battle royale. And the icing on-top is they play “Jedi Rocks” the disco infused pop song that will literally make you happy and angry to be a Star Wars fan.
This is a bad idea. Maybe we shouldn't do this guys..
-Nobody who works at LucasFilm
And as if that's not enough, the game still has more. You can play as all kinds of different local creatures, like Wampas, Jawas, Ewoks, Tusken Raiders, and if you like stupid shit, Genosian Warriors.
No but guys seriously, lets like take a week off, and come up with something COOL. -STILL nobody that works at LucasFilm
Also there's space battles. Also you can force choke people, and FUCK I could go on forever, but instead of reading me ramble just go BUY the game. Most of these games are on Steam, and if you go online you can probably fine console copies of most of them as-well.
Now,I prepare to be called an asshole because I called KoToR overrated...
