Who knew that one of the creepiest and road kill-iest marsupials could star in a decent game?
I bought this game on a whim when I saw it had three things:
- Casual Platforming (I was in the mood for some quick fun. Sorry Dragon Age...but soon)
- Steam Achievements
- $14.99 Price Tag
I've played the game about three times now on multiple difficulties. The new game plus stuff isn't that great. After you finish the game on Normal difficult, you unlock Hard. And after you beat that, you unlock "Gold Sparkster Mode," which is essentially Very Hard Mode. The game has some fun platforming mixed up with Defender style flying missions. You get a smattering of moves while on the ground:
- Sword fighting abilities (not what you're thinking about perv)
- Charge move (you go forward faster and stuff)
- Stationary spinning attack (it's like an infinite sonic spin-up)
- Left and right motion (now with jumping!)
Whatever. Lots of platformers have that stuff. So what made me play Rocket Knight for 15 hours? The game is fun and has decent achievements to keep you going to higher difficulties. So I guess the game kept me going solely because I owned it and I wanted a game with achievements to play. To summarize my review in one thought: Rocket Knight is that movie you see at the theater just because it's the best of all the average movies playing.
