Everything about this game has caveats.
Remade visuals are pretty but cities and interiors lack detail. And the rest is repetitive green grass/ blue sky or caves.
Dialogue is mostly fully voiced but the main protagonist can be irritating.
Quests are plenty but they are basic "kill everything" or "fetch flowers". Plus a lot of backtracking. The game has a fast-forward mode for a reason.
World building is interesting but reveals itself through books and town npc dialogue (not voiced) ....
Plot is interesting but poorly paced. The story becomes interesting towards the last 5 hours but ends on a cliffhanger...
Combat is a big positive. Like many modern JRPGs, the player can dodge and attack enemies like in an action game and with a button press can switch to turn-based battles. The action part is fun enough but pretty poor and repetitive. The turn-based part stayed fun until the end but never challenged me to be tactical other than just using the most powerful moves again and again.
Overall an originally mediocre rpg remade into a twice longer modern version.
Played 75 hours on Switch 2. Runs well but a bit blurry.
There's a generous 10 hour long demo.
I wanted to experience what many other fans call "Peak" rpg. I won't be playing the sequel.
