This iPhone version of the Escape from Castle Wolfenstein story changes the game from a first person shooter to a first person turn based role playing game. Each movement forward, back, right or left takes as turn, as does shooting one of the many different weapons. As you crawl around dungeons, looking for loot and secret doors, you also find various power-ups, pretty much all of them in the form of syringes that inject you with stat bonuses. One needle will regenerate a small amount of health for the next few dozen turns, while another increases your chance of evading an attack. As Major League Baseball has taught us, needles make everything better.
For the most part, the game is dead easy. You receive enough health packs, Num-Num Bars, and chicken dinners to more than make up for the small amount of damage you take from the bad guys. By the third region of the game, things get a bit more complicated, but generally you can find a narrow passageway so you aren't getting attacked on all sides and take out he baddies one by one. There are a few boss fights that change things up and can be challenge, but it's primarily a casual take on the genre.
It's pretty simple, fun enough, and mostly makes good use of the iPhones controls, weapon selection being the only real problem. It includes two mini-games, the card game War and a chicken kicking game, that add minor diversions. Honestly, who hasn't wanted to kick a chicken at a dart-board style target? This game also answers important historical questions like: What would Hitler look like with a soul patch instead of a mustache? Now we can know.
