Gothic is an older game and much underrated.
The story pulls you straight in and you really want to get that guy who
beats you up at the start. But first it is survive and the monsters are very hard at the start. Best to avoid them! (But, hey, what's the save game for anyway!)
levelling up is a good feeling and the skill points you gain need to be
spent wisely.
There are numerous paths you can take through the game and this gives
it a great deal of replayability. However, all paths lead to the same
ending which is a little hackneyed tbh. The voice acting is variable,
but mostly good, and some of the phrases have come into standard use in
my household!
The controls are not standard and take a bit of getting used to, but
you will play the game for long enough that they eventually become
second nature. It is only really a problem if you switch between games
frequently. The graphics are not great by modern standards and there are many glitches, clipping etc.
The game is fairly dated now really but if you play it you will most probably think it well worth it.
