Game Review: Star Wars: Battlefront

Star Wars Battlefront may be the best looking game we have ever played – there, we said it. And we mean it, the graphics quality of the game is at unmatched levels. Forget everything you have seen this far; this is a new level of graphics, animations and world design quality. Star Wars Battlefront looks better (and believable) than the second trilogy, it is that good. Although, this is the only positive thing we can say about the game. Everything other than the graphics is simply… unfinished. (Notice we didn’t say “bad”.)

First of all, this is a “multiplayer game only”. So if you are looking for an unforgettable single-player experience set on the Star Wars world, this game has not that. Basically, it is a team-based shooter, but think of the Call of Duty series, not the Battlefield. Everything is simple enough and fast-paced – kill other players, control outposts and win. And at first sight, it is an amazing experience. İmagine that AT-AT’s are moving while X-Wings are attacking them, you are trying to move on to the next outpost but suddenly, Darth Vader stands in front of you. Just when you start to pray, Luke Skywalker rolls in and starts an amazing light-saber duel with the good old Vader – sounds amazing, right? Indeed it is, but because of the greed of the publisher, Star Wars Battlefront falls short in many ways.

The whole graphics package loses its captivity in maximum 3 hours. Yeah, this is a good-looking game, but it has nothing else to offer. You keep playing the same games over and over and they do not have enough varieties to keep you interested. Simplicity may be the keyword of the game but it is also the “doom” of it: everything is just so… basic. You don't need any skills because each shot of yours can hit the enemy from the other side of the map, easily. You don’t need tactics because your spawn points are so bad, you get killed almost in seconds. Even if you don’t, no element of the game requires to use tactics; it is just shoot, die and repeat. If you are lucky enough (and usually you aren’t) you can play as a “hero”, such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker or Palpatine. But the experience doesn’t last long; you become the target of literally every other player and die in seconds, again. Star Wars Battlefront “screams” that it needs more content and different varieties; but guess what – you need to buy the Season Pass to play the better game. Almost every aspect of the game is locked behind that “Pass” and we are sure that after a year, the game will become the perfect Star Wars game, but right now? It is suited only for casuals, who play PC games maximum 3 hours in a week. If you are planning to play this game every night for hours, we guarantee that you will get bored in 2 days, probably 1.5. Right now, Star Wars Battlefront is aimed for the wallets of the die-hard Star Wars fans and nobody else.
