First up, I am not a fan of motor sports and I think it is not requested at all to enjoy this game. Secondly, this is not supposed to be a full fletched review, I won't go into describing all the content, instead I want to focus on the two things that make this game stand our for me.
I just finished all levels on silver minimum and there were several times when I could not finish a level within the 30 minutes time limit or available 500 retrials. I consider myself an average gamer, but after watching the replays of the top players I realised I am only dust. In any case, these are the two things:
1. I have only felt the same kind of satisfactioning in single player games when getting through tough parts of Ninja Gaiden or when I was finally able to finish Contra 4. In contrast to these games, however, the high number of checkpoints and the non-existence of any load times takes away the unnecessary frustrating parts. It even goes so far that when you fail on the very first part of a track and you go back to the beginning it will always start the clock at zero again. This might be a small detail but I think it shows how much thought the developers put into this game to arrive at somethings that can be wickedly difficult but at the same time tries to spare the gamer as much frustration as possible.
2. This game has a really long learning curve. Again and again you feel that you finally know what you are doing and all past levels feel much easier, just to be confronted with a seemingly impossible section in the next level. After some time and watching the replays of better drivers you finally make it through that section and after putting some more work into it you are able to pull it off consistently. At least for me, this was a reocurring cycle.
That's all folks, definitely not a game for everyone, but pure gold for gamers that like a challenge.
