I'm not a hardcore gamer, and I certainly didn't intend on playing Fallout 3 as much as I have. I bought it for my 360 about one month after the game's release. I'm always late when it comes to playing a new game, but it always works out, even if I do get spoiled here and there.
The graphics, of course, are nothing short of incredible and jaw-dropping; I expected nothing less from Bethesda. The dialogue and voice acting is fantastic, I'll often have the NPCs repeat themselves just so I can hear it again--very cool. I love the main plot, and most of the side-quests, very fun and involving. I've barely nicked the surface.
The part I really like is the ability to create my own player, and craft it after myself. So instead of having to play a generic hero/heroine character, I get play as me in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Groovy!
The concepts are refreshing, some of the cast of NPCs very endearing, and the non-stop chances to splatter body parts is always a morbid treat. VATS is the coolest invention ever. And I won't deny that a few places in the game have tugged on my emotions and made me cry. It's so involving, witty, and clever.
I've read about a lot of people quitting the game, or giving up on it because they "ran out of things to do", but I just can't get enough. Granted, I don't have 200+ hours invested into it, but what I do have invested was well worth the effort. I've only discovered 30-40 some locations, beaten it once, and the rest of the time, I'm just EXPLORING the huge map, wondering what fascinating piece of history I'll stumble upon next!
I really couldn't find anything that bothered me about the game, I guess it's to say, I wasn't really looking--too busy gawking at all of the pretty scenery, or swooning over Butch DeLoria. Ha!
It's a fun game, I know I'll be playing it for at least the next two years.
