Gona be pretty straight forward about this review.
PROS:
- Alex Mercer is a total bamf who spares no one.
- Shape-shifting powers are awesome to use, original, very destructive, and give you a great sense of power.
- Fast paced combat and Alex's moves flow nicely.
- Running and jumping around the city with Alex is fast and fun. Fighting zombies and soldiers is even better.
- Story keeps you interested. Web of Intrigue opens up a nice variety of story background when you absorb the memories of those linked to Alex and the virus.
- When it's done, there's some excellent replay value in the free-roam, events, and starting a 2nd file with all your powers.
- Controls work well with the PC version of this game with easy to understand 3rd Person controls. Yes, I did play with Mouse and Keyboard. Still waiting for my 360 controller for Windows in the mail. :P
CONS:
- Some framerate issues when things start getting intense.
- Supporting characters weren't really that interesting at all and Alex seemed a little bland.
- Doesn't really have a good variety of enemies or weapons.
- Story can get confusing if you're not paying attention.
- The city is a little small (IMO) for such an epic game.
- Graphics could be better.
All in all I had a blast playing Prototype and the PC version of this game holds up just as good as it's console counterpart. I recommend getting a 360 controller though because it just makes sense and would make things easier, but I had no problems with Mouse and Keyboard. If you do not have a 360 or PS3, I recommend Prototype for those PC gamers fiending a great Action-Adventure game that plays well and will keep you entertained for a good while. 4 outa 5. :)
