I remember those cold nights playing Die hard trilogy. I was 9 with my sister. We ran around the game. I had the og ps1 controller in my hand. The smell of old plastic as i was mowing down baddies in the Nakatomi plaza parking lot, hearing their screams of pain and insults and taunts. It was a simpler time on my cousin's hand me down Playstation 1.
Frogger 2 was an epic colorful game with hours of gameplay. I played with my sister in my cold garage on my large Sony tv monitor.
I was 10 when I was teased about Sonic Gems collection in a Nintendo power magazine one fine summer. The cover art was Shadow the hedgehog oozing aura. All at camp and my way too another camp in cali.Months passed by. I was a good lil boy and my dad bought me a Gamecube game of Sonic Gems collection. I was not disappointed as I had Sonics history at my finger tips. It was after a fun but very shitty summer as I played Sonic R, Sonic CD, Sonic the fighters, and all the other Sonic game gear games. I looked up at the stars as I played in hope and happiness with my dad after i played knowing that no matter what things will be alright.
On the warm brisk summer afternoon. The world smelt of sunscreen. My dad took me to the Toy Mandala out in Tarzana. I looked at the store and was looking for Final Fantasy 7. Got 8 instead. Its not what I wanted. I sure as shid was not gonna take it back. The game kicked off with realistic renders of ff characters at different angles with military music. Then the game started with whimsical sfx leading me to a realistic cgi beach and the most epic intro of all time. I explored Balamb Garden.
I will never forget the brisk morning I bought Crash Bandicoot 2 warped with my mother. I came home to play it thought I was gonna play Crash Bandicoot 3 like I played at Toys R Us. This is however not the case. I popped that bad boy in and was immersed in the tones and the sounds of Crash Bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes backs. From the jungle locations of Australia to the Cold mountain ridges full of dangerous Orcas. Crash Bandicoot Cortex Strikes Back is such a hit.
I was a car obsessed boy. Used to collect hot wheels. I bought Ridge Racer because of the airplanes in the demo at Toys R Us of Ridge Racer Type 4. So far? No airplanes, but only history. This is the first ever PS1 game, at least one of them. And one everyone preferred that year over anything else. I remember playing Ridge racer on my fat tv in my garage on those cold nights and brisk mornings with my sister on that D-pad controller. My sister wasn't a fan. But those remixed tunes of Ridge Racer are true urban nostalgia I'll never forget.
Ridge Racer Type 4 was the real game I wanted to play. I went to a Toys r Us and played it on an LCD and PS One. I was immersed in this gritty slick urban world only 4,000 polygons could give me. With the tunes to serenade my drifts.
I found Konami Collectors Series Arcade advaanced at a Best Buy. It was real Cheep. I'm surprised my dad bought it for me. The game starts up with an 80s intro with several iconic Konami Arcade video games that stand the sands of time. Like Ye Are Kung Fu , Gyrus, and Rush n' attack.
I was having a shitty teen years in fall. On my birthday my dad came over and my sister was there. She gave me Elder scrolls 5 Skyrim. It was a huge improvement from all the violent video games i play. I remember those calming tunes. The white run.
The neighborhood kid invited me over too his house to play. His name was Noah. My sister came and we shared the controller. I got up at those brisk hours to see him. We sat down at the screen for hours with those rough GameCube graphics and jaunty tunes. We played on the tv for hours with that small disk. Along with Pac-Man World 2 and Luigi Mansion. The GameCube was so much more simple than anything that came after it yet so powerful. I will never forget collecting shiny things. Everytime the Bikini Bottom theme plays I will always think of Noah.
