For a game to make it onto this list, I'll either have finished it or at least passed its halfway point; not just picked it up and played it once. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to gauge its experience properly.
Played a lot of games this year. A side effect of the pandemic.

Complete. After hearing of the Netflix series, I was reminded that The Witcher was one of those game series that I’d always been curious about but had just never gotten around to. I personally struggle to understand people who jump straight to sequels instead of starting something from the beginning, so instead of playing the third like most newcomers do, I chose to play the first. I loved it. This game was one of the only long games I’ve played in a while that has kept me engaged almost the whole time (save the beginning due to the controls confusing me a bit at first). Despite lasting 48 theoretically tedious hours, it almost never bored me. I pity people who’s experience has been so tainted by modern-gen formulas that they render this game “virtually unplayable” due to its 2007 quirks. Beautiful atmosphere, music and characters with captivating dialogue. The decision making mechanics were great. What a unique experience.
