A short list like last year, I like to keep these down to top 5 cause I usually barely play ten releases in the year anyway.
Special Mentions:
A special mention to Grand Theft Auto 5, which would rank at number 2 or 3 on my list if it didn't technically come out in the past. This year saw the PC release which I had been waiting for, and it didn't disappoint. I've played hours of GTA Online but still need to get round to finishing the last couple of hours of the story.
A special mention to Ori and the Blind Forest for nearly being number 1 or 2 on this list until it burnt down every bridge it worked so hard to build by not allowing me to go back and get collectibles I missed, and then having the gall to have a completely unmarked "point of no return" with zero warning. That was enough to make me not even finish the last 30 minutes of it.
A special mention to Bloodborne for being a fun take on a Souls game that ultimately just made me realise I'm totally done with these kind of games. Dark Souls 1 was and still is the best Souls game ever, and I'm happy with my time with it.
A special mention to Until Dawn, which although I did not play really blew me away in the Giant Bomb video series. I usually hate horror games, yet the presentation here made it fun and exciting to watch.
A final special mention to Contradiction for managing to have such a great story even my girlfriend got into watching it with me as GBE played through it. Here's hoping there's a sequel or spiritual successor in the pipeline.

The first Metal Gear I've had the joy of playing. Shame about how it dragged on at the end.
I wish it hadn't been free just so I could have paid for this. It's also the only game I've ever won a trophy for.
The first 3DS MH with online play, and gosh I had such a fantastic experience with the GB community on this one.
I'm glad I took a punt on this as its one of the few games I've played that really did humour well.
Reminding me of Spyro with its charming art style and showing that a modern take on a 3D platformer is still possible, Grow Home was a fantastic little experience.
