Look, it's all nostalgia. There, I said it. With that admission out of the way, I think I can still comfortably say it's my most favourite game of all time for what this thing did to me back in 1997. I had been mostly a Nintendo kid playing 'gamey' games like Mario and Ninja Turtles, but when my cousin got me this 3 disc epic of a game along with the Playstation, my understanding of games were blown. Shit was amazingly epic - the music, the characters and as convoluted as shit, the story. I was so enthralled in all of it. I did play the game a few years back just to see how it was, and man the story is hella messed up and doesn't make a lick of sense later down the track. But shit is the thing fun. It's a stupid and massive hyperbolic thing to say, but I really don't think I'd be the person I am today if I hadn't played Final Fantasy VII. AND THAT'S WHY IT'S THE BEST GAME EVER.
I remember playing Metal Gear Solid 1 back when it was released on the Playstation 1 thinking it was pretty damn awesome, but for whatever reason never ended up purchasing a PS2 and it's sequels pretty much until the PS3 was announced. By the time I had picked up a PS2, MGS3: Subsistence had come out so I picked that up before MGS2. Holy effin' shit. I must say
I loved the characters, world and music. So so charming. And the voice acting!
When I saw trailers for this game, it didn't immediately click with me. The colossi battles are some of the most epic moments in video game I think,. Game had some of the best "HOLY GOD OMG JEEZ!" in a video game for me. But unbeknowst to me, I slowly started to love the game more for it's minimal world and sense of isolation.
This game almost single handedly killed my high school years. I got it back at the start of high school, only really playing it for it's campaign which I still think was great. I had finished with it by a few months, but it re-emerged a few years later when our year level had found out about free online servers. Then we all found custom games... that's when the 3AM school nights started. 3Corridors, Footmen Frenzy, Sheep Tag, DoTA - all to blame.
BEST VOICE ACTING AND GAMEPLAY EVER
Got introduced to this game through my cousin. I remember the day he showed me, it was on CS_SOMETHING. I started on 1.2 way back in 1999 I think it was. I clocked up so many hours on this as a kid - playing as soon as I got home against bots to online at night when I could connect on the modem. I joined a few clans here and there, twas fun.
The craziness, loved it. And the world, setting.
I was a big Street Fighter fan back in the day, so when my cousin got me this game on the Playstation, I expected it to just be another Street Fighter game. Man was I wrong... I was so addicted to the simple gameplay that I think I cleared all 150 Challenges.
A great blend of graphics, story, character, voice acting and a surprisingly addictive online mode, Uncharted 2 really embodies the phrase "more than the sum of its parts". The original Uncharted was a fun game -
