One of the few games I have gone back and played over and over not for achievements or trophies, but for the sheer fun of the game. From the graphics, to the controls, to the story, to the sheer fun of running around, Arkham Asylum is one of the most rewarding games from this year.
Uncharted 2 takes all of the fun of the first game, and turns it up a notch.The story is top notch. The characters are brilliantly created. Even the multiplayer was fun. Uncharted 2 plays to gamings' biggest strengths, and deserves its spot as a great game.
Everything wrong in Assassin's Creed is fixed by the superior sequel. Ezio climbs walls, hides from enemies, and assassinates targets at blistering speeds compared to Altair. The graphics have been improved. The story is more organic, no longer having you run back home for your master to tell you who to kill next. Ezio is a character you grow with, and it makes for an immersive game.
Modern Warfare 2 is a ridiculous game. From climbing up ice cliffs to assaults on Washington DC, the game turns everything beyond the biggest summer blockbusters. The story is a Michael Bay dream. But the game excels in the multiplayer. While team death matches make this game the best large multiplayer game of the year, the Spec Ops mode is the real standout, letting players team up with a partner to play through areas explored in the story mode, letting them rely on each other adds a new depth to the gameplay.
Left 4 Dead 2 adds difficulty and new play styles on what was a brilliant game of one year ago. No longer can every stage be played by running and gunning, then hiding in corners shooting zombies during the crescendo events. The characters are more fun to listen to, and the new zombies add new tension and thrills. Left 4 Dead 2 is what the first game should have been.
Fun multiplayer, a fun story, and the most uses of the names "Rico", ""Sev" and "Garza" of any videogame. Killzone 2 is a fun shooter not quite forgotten when the huge releases came around later in the year..
Another game that is an improvement over its predecessor, Overlord II takes the play style from the first game and makes it fun. Who could not love commanding your own horde of gremlins to maim and slaughter?
Popcap makes great games. While at first look, their games are considered casual, there is a depth to the games that makes them as hard as they are fun. Plus, how can you not love killing zombies with plants?
'Spolsion Man is a great puzzle game. Simple to control, yet it can be hard due to the insane use of the exploding of the character to reach the exit to each stage. One of the better purchases available on X-Box Live.
One word: goregasm.
