2013 Games of the year

by poperamone

2013 will be remembered by me as a year of many jaw dropping experiences. Narrative has taken a huge leap forward, in many different ways from laugh out loud funny to emotionally engaging.

I have not included any early access titles so I have left off two of my favourite games of the year, Kentucky route zero and Prison Architect.

As I write this day Z has been released, I didn't play the mod but have already put 20 hours in. It is tough but rewarding for it.

BioShock Infinite

1. BioShock Infinite

Many people did not like the end of Bioshock but for me the twist was truly satisfying. It is as if Levine is acknowledging that there can never be a satisfying twist and that a sequel is always a retreading of the original ideas.

Gone Home

2. Gone Home

A sweet love story, intelligently told in a way that shows the future of the medium.

Tearaway

3. Tearaway

Tearaway was my christmas game and fitted perfectly for it. Bringing the player in as a character really drew me in and I welled up a little at the ending. I blame the cider.

The Stanley Parable

4. The Stanley Parable

I loved the mod and this built on that. The demo was probably better than the release but the new moments in both made me laugh ou loud

Gunpoint

5. Gunpoint

This came out of nowhere for me. The gameplay of gunpoint is amazingly fun and the puzzles are excellent.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

6. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

The way mechanics are used to enhance the story was brilliant.

Tomb Raider
