Games I'm looking forward to in 2010

by solarus

Simply put, these are the games that I'm excited for, regardless of the reason. Some are part of a series I adore, some have an interesting story and some just have really pretty graphics. Regardless, I'm sure I'll have some money set aside for these gems and I'll be waiting at the front of the line on opening day.

Heavy Rain

1. Heavy Rain

What can I say about this game? I adored Indigo Prophecy / Fahrenheit, and this appears to improve on that game in every conceivable way. The graphics look to be the best that any console game have ever seen, the story is intriguing and mysterious to say the least and Quantic Dream have done an effective job of keeping me hooked by trickling small tastes of what this game is going to have in store. If it lives up to my expectations, this has the potential to be one of my favorite games of all time.

Final Fantasy XIII

2. Final Fantasy XIII

I don't really need to say much here. I've been a fan of every single Final Fantasy game (well... Haven't played Final Fantasy XI, but that doesn't count). I was also a huge fan of Vagrant Story, which only made me like FFXII more. To finally have a release date in place for this is a pleasant shock after almost 4 years of waiting.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Let's just get this out of the way: I'm a HUGE fan of Deus Ex and the cyberpunk genre in general. The first game is one of my all-time favorites. Although I liked the 2nd one a great deal as well, I don't feel it lived up to the legacy of the original. Now with Square working on this one, I'm expecting great things from the revival of a great series, despite knowing very little about it at this point.

Mass Effect 2

4. Mass Effect 2

I like Sci-Fi. I like a good story. I LOVED the first Mass Effect. With the sequel remaining in Bioware's capable hands, and with the numerous changes which look to only enhance the gameplay, Mass Effect 2 looks like it will be an early candidate for Game of the Year. But really, just admit it: You want to play it for the story. Me too, and it already looks like it won't disappoint.

5. Alan Wake

As a fan of survival horror / Psychological thriller games since their inception, Alan Wake really looks like a potential series in the making. Although few details have been revealed so far, the premise seems good and more importantly, appear to be well implemented.

Max Payne 3

6. Max Payne 3

Although I admittedly have my doubts about the new direction Rockstar intends to take this series, the announcement that Max Payne was getting another sequel was a definite highlight of my day. I loved the first 2 games, even with their flaws. The graphic novel film noir style really helped flesh out a solid story. Hopefully Rockstar can hold true with this one.
