Everyone has played Mario world, Zelda, and the top games on the SNES. These are the ones you've either never heard of, or have and know why they're on this list. Even if you don't like them they should be experienced at least once. These are in no particular order at the moment.

This game is a top down action RPG, that involves you slowly restoring the planet to life. First it wins for making spear combat fun. Second, you stare down a lion in a Neo-Tokyo sewer and he becomes your friend. 'Nuff Said.
This is the pinnacle of the series, and that's even better because its first in the time-line. With a good use of puzzles and non random encounters, this is a solid RPG.
So this may or may not have been a "good game", but the premise was hilarious. You're a doctor shrinking down to microscopic size to remove the problems of an ex chain smoker who used to work for a tobacco company. But the tobacco company has sent in robots to stop you. How is that not awesome?
Screw Spore, this is how you do evolution. In this you can make a shark finned, fish bodied, iguana that can fly and have that mean something.
This is the ultimate test of your gaming spirit. This game will break you, hard. Two hits and you're dead, no matter how many power ups you get. Worse still when you beat it you have to play through it again to get the power to beat the final boss.
Pretty solid game for the super scope. Really should have a PC or iPhone revival.
Standard top down action rpg, but the setting and story was kinda cool. It involved dragons.
I appreciate the pressure you feel when your dudes start to die. You start wanting to keep your good team alive so the new soldiers don't come in and get creamed.
So not sure how obscure this is but a lot of people I know hadn't heard about it until we grew up. Very crazy almost off-putting art style. Though killing hippies with a baseball bat makes up for that.
Same spiritual series as Terranigma, this one is more action based. It involves turning into alternate versions of yourself to fight and solve puzzles.
