Probably my favourite "J"RPG I've ever played. Up there with Knights of the Old Republic and The Last of Us as my favourite stories in gaming. This game is so fucking special.
Supergiant is my favourite indie developer. I've played all of their games to completion, and watched every minute of behind the scenes footage for all of their games. I just adore them. Hades was my favourite roguelike. Hades 2 is my new favourite roguelike. Why? The witchy aesthetic fucks. Jen Zee (their main artist) somehow only refines her insane talent release after release, and there's an aesthetic perfectionistic polish coating everything--tiny little sparkles and custom animation work hidden in every inch of UI and geometry. An entirely new set of fantastic weapons, tons of new ways to customize the run you're going to go on, tons of variability throughout each run, some of the best bosses they've ever made blocking each biome. Personally, I'm a sucker for the heavier focus on ranged combat and the spell / magick stuff. Also also: Hades 2 might have the best writing and voice acting in Supergiant's already-impeccable portfolio. Impossible not to gush uncontrollably with this game.
Borderlands 4 is probably my new favourite shlooter. Even though the story doesn't hit the same highs as Borderlands 2, this is easily the best game in the series. It isn't perfect (performance issues, UI nonsense, bugs), but I'm having a blast regardless. After some patches and DLC, this is going to be a top recommendation to anyone looking for a co-op loot driven game.
While it doesn't have the same narrative charm as It Takes Two, I think Split Fiction is my favourite co-op experience I've ever had with another person.
TBD. Still too early in.
