My dad didn't buy me a lot of things growing up, that would be my mom. There were of course exceptions and they were memorable. The biggest one of them all is of course when he got me my very own Sega Genesis. I was ready to see what could possibly be better than Mario. At the time I did think this new badass 16 bit machine was better than old Nintendo.
This console shaped some of my views on games for years to come. As a more objective adult I can now look back at the games the Genesis offered and what made them so special.
I don't own a lot of games for this one but I want to collect as many as I can. Originally I only owned like 5 games for this thing: Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Golden Axe 2 and TMNT: Hyperstone Heist. These are the games that I own a physical copy of, no virtual console or compilations.

The one that started it all. I must have played this everyday back when I was a kid. Having no save feature meant I had to just restart this everyday as well.
This one is my favorite Sonic game. I know its not the best but it just holds that special place because it improved everything from the first but kept the simplicity that made it a classic.
Back in the day I would play this only once in a while at a cousin's house. I've played it several times since then of course. My favorite thing they added is Tails being able to carry Sonic around for a while.
This and Sonic 3 is just one big awesome game that come together and make the best Sonic game ever made.
Weird spin-off that is kinda fun.
Gets a lot of hate but I think its fine.
Alright enough Sonic games. This is secretly the best Contra game made. Its got 4 very different playable characters each with their own weapons, huge crazy bosses and a ton of replay value with multiple endings and paths.
I just got this because of the movie.
Never got into this game. I just got some controllers and it came with it. Guess they wanted to get rid of it.
I saw this game at some store and remembered playing it a while back. It was cheap and the game is good.
