I wouldn't have believed this game would've won me over as fast as it did. Even if the crime missions got stale towards the end, I just enjoyed pulling off gravity defying jumps and combos that I didn't care. In a year in which we sadly lost Stan Lee, I am glad that this year was one of the best for Spider-Man. Not only we got the fantastic Spider-Verse movie, but also in my opinion the best Superhero game to date. Sorry Arkham fans (not that sorry).
Ultimate is an appropriate title. I still can't believe the amount of effort was poured into one tiny Switch cartridge. 70+ characters, 100+ stages, 900+ music tracks, an actual good single player campaign. I think this is going to be tough to top Smash as a Switch staple from now on.
The fact that it turned out as amazingly as it did is a shock, but God of War is a tour-de-force of single player gaming. From the storytelling, graphics, score and gameplay, it's a master-class.
Despite my aversion of Roguelike games, Dead Cells won me over for combining the genre with the essence of Metroidvania games. It is perhaps one of the best controlled games on the list. Every movement is precise, which is great in a game you can die any moment.
A VR killer app. This is what you buy a PSVR for. The level of immersion is second to none. Oh and the platforming is great too.
Who would believe the guys behind Guilty Gear would provide the best anime fighter ever made. Not only it pays amazing homage to its source material, but it plays like a dream as well.
Trance Tetris is more like it. Because man does it feel like you are amidst the most acid-fueled trip ever. I don't think I have ever had a more fun environment to play Tetris on than VR.
Yeah, I thought Celeste was great. I liked the story, but the gameplay was the best part. Every platform challenge felt like a puzzle to solve and I was intrigued from beginning to end.
I do still think the interface can be clunky as well as the tutorials being complicated, but as a whole, a great experience. Easily the best Monster Hunter game.
