Talk about a comeback.

Bayonetta 2

1. Bayonetta 2

Bayonetta 2 somehow manages to build upon its predecessor and deliver an even more refined action experience. If only it had the highly addictive "Angel Attack" mini-game, but even without it, among other hack and slashers, it is in a league of its own.

Mario Kart 8

2. Mario Kart 8

Zero gravity in retrospect didn't add much to the gameplay, but to see what it achieved in terms of design is only a glimpse of why Mario Kart 8 is one of the best, if not THE best, in the whole series. Also it has the BEST DLC of any game. Ever.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

3. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

I don't even like Lord of the Rings or anything in the Tolkin-verse in particular, but it's not require to enjoy Mordor. The nemesis system is perhaps the most innovating mechanic in a long time.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/Nintendo 3DS

4. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/Nintendo 3DS

Even without a story mode, it is amazing how much fun Smash Bros. remains after all this time. Small additions like Smash Run, Special Orders and new mini games round up one of the best fan gifts a company can give to its followers.

Sunset Overdrive

5. Sunset Overdrive

I bought an Xbox One for this game, and while I don't like the "Edgy" attitude and characters, not to mention the humor not being my cup of tea despite the other successes in the area for Insomniac, it succeeds where it really matters: Gameplay. Traversal through Sunset City more than makes up for any narrative fault.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

6. South Park: The Stick of Truth

This should've been a failure, but it's anything but. Perhaps the best TV based game of all time, with visuals and humor akin to its source material, and RPG gameplay that fans and newbies alike can enjoy.

Wolfenstein: The New Order

7. Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein harkens to the good old days of FPS games. However, with a surprisingly great story despite a generic lead, it is heads and shoulders the best FPS of 2014.

Shovel Knight

8. Shovel Knight

As much as I am tired with retro revivals and the constant ravings of Shovel Knight, I still can't deny of what a truly great game it is. Great soundtrack with benign level design elevate over the rest of the downloadable games of 2014.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

9. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

Perhaps one of the most beautiful games in recent memory, but it's the same good ol' frantic Guilty Gear gameplay I fell in love with 11 years ago. Now we shall wait until we get XRD Accent Core so we can get the other half of the cast, please.

The Jackbox Party Pack
