My Top Ten Games of 2022

by madbootsy

Hey, I guess I still make these? 2022 was a year where I made some very healthy choices for myself going forward and started playing multiplayer games with awesome new friends and also old friends I hadn't connected with in a while.

Speaking of which, I also got way into VR this year and that's been a real treat to play around in with good friends. THE FUTURE!

Honorable Mentions:

Cyberpunk 2077 - Restarted and saw the story through - what a cool surprise. Loved the main story and how it ended.

Guardians of the Galaxy - What an overlooked gem of a game. Shame we'll never get a sequel.

Control - Hmm. It was alright! Combat got very fun at the end with levitate and throwin' stuffs. Story was nonsense and I couldn't really get into it that much. Cool setting.

Lacuna - A fun little Tech-Noir Detective game that has some neat Blade Runner vibes. Glad I played through this one.

Resident Evil 4 VR - What a fun way to replay this classic. One of the best VR experiences out there.

Walkabout Mini Golf VR - Haven't had this much multiplayer fun in a while. Really fun to hang out with friends and talk about whatever while SWINGIN' AWAY! Lots of cool DLC too.

Fortnite - Never thought I'd ever get into this game, but the newest update is wunderbar - Crazy hammer, perks, etc. Lots of fun playing this one with great friends.

Mount and Blade: Bannerlord - Hey, it's finally out! Moar Mount and Blade is a good thing.

Elden Ring

1. Elden Ring

What a FromSoft game. Didn't help that I beat it in chunks, but I greatly loved most of my time with it. Variety of builds is *chef kiss*.

God of War Ragnarök

2. God of War Ragnarök

Anothah banger. The Atreus sections were a little "eh" at times and the narrative spins it's wheels for a bit too long, but woo what a finale! Where do they go from here??

Cult of the Lamb

3. Cult of the Lamb

Holy moley, what a super cool game! Got hooked and blasted through it in a couple days. Got a little too easy near the end and ran out of meaningful upgrades, but what a great game!

Ghostwire: Tokyo

4. Ghostwire: Tokyo

Ghostwire DONEZO! I had fun with this one. Kindaaa felt like they ran out of ideas 1/3rd through development and resorted to copy/pasting standard open world design. Walking around Tokyo was really awesome. Ending got me teary eyed (sibling loss).

The Quarry

5. The Quarry

The closest this company has gotten to recreating the awesomeness that was Until Dawn. Wish it had a more fully fledged co-op mode. Kinda feel cheated by some moments/false choices + goofy story beats (can't hit what you can't see, darling!), but really good overall!

We Were Here Forever

6. We Were Here Forever

Really fun co-op experience that makes you big thonk at points. Better puzzles than the 3rd one, like squid translation and mixing of elements through the river. Ending was weirdly dark...??

Return to Monkey Island

7. Return to Monkey Island

I'm so glad Monkey Island is back. Kinda been dragging my feet on it because of other new releases, but hopefully I'll beat it one of these days.

8. Horizon Forbidden West

Still need to see this one through, but it feels like a huge improvement over the first game.

Vampire Survivors

9. Vampire Survivors

It's pretty addictive. Helluva value.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

10. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

I... forgot about this game when I first made this list. WHOOPS! It's solid and fun on the co-op gameplay side, basically Vermintide but 40k... but overall it honestly falls short of the first two Vermintide's. Definitely needed some more time in the oven. Hopefully it'll be a lot better when I come back to it in 6 months or so.
