A charming, really well-made game. A traditional RPG in a good way, where it leads you all around an interesting world meeting fun characters and following a simple enough yet still engaging story thread. Great voice acting and characterizations really put it over the top. Plus, an overworld you eventually get to fly around in! Glad I finally played through it 4 stars
Surprisingly great, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I would have liked more melee options in combat (there was obviously a big emphasis on ranged), but overall I was very happy with it 4.5 stars
Adored everything about the game, thought it was a wonderful step forward in so many ways. Confidence and execution at an all time high. Great dungeon design and satisfying combat that I never tired of. Reflecting back on it, I like the murder mystery style story of P4 a bit more than P5's style of story, and I'm sad that most of the confidants never really developed beyond their singular character-defining trait (Makoto was a freaking boss and I loved her a ton but then we'd hang out and she'd be like "is this what humans do?" which was a turnoff) 4.5 stars
The story and characters are fantastic and are the best thing the game has to offer. The combat ended up being serviceable, but kind of the weakest component of the package. Great localization and sense of humor throughout the game. They've made a fan out of me for sure 4.5 stars
Revisiting this was wonderful, but it exposed some flaws. The combat was as satisfying as I remember -- Gambits are just the best. The environments and music are a joy to be immersed in. The story, however, is confusing for the first half of the game and shallow for the second. The localization is great but isn't well suited for voice acting that has to keep pace with the unmodified animations and cinematography of the original Japanese version, so what's being said is often hard to parse. Motivations aren't entirely clear, so allies and enemies can be hard to decipher because of this... But then it eventually simply turns into a "we control our own destiny" story, yawn. Having come straight from Yakuza 0 where the long cutscenes and expositions of a straightforward yet twisting story were extremely satisfying, it was unfortunate to see the contrast. But again, the core of the game is so well made that I was still happy to spend another 65 hours in it 4 stars
Boy... Where to begin. Everything about this game seems to be wonderful on the surface but with one meaningful flaw that undercuts it. There aren't enough courses to justify the amount of time it takes to progress in the game, which means you're constantly grinding on very few courses. And heck, one entire course doesn't unlock until you've completed your progression through the single player, what a weird decision. Additionally, one of the courses was really unfun -- bubble-shaped fairways might have been a good idea for when I wanted to choose a more challenging course among a dozen options, but again, there weren't many courses presented so I felt like I had to choose between being upset at a course or being bored with it. And then there's the idiotic RNG that ruins shots without allowing the player to compensate. Apparently it only really manifests when doing a super backspin, which ultimately led me to simply not do super backspins ever, which isn't want I wanted at all. If I could control the side-effects of doing a super backspin then it would be possible to compensate for them and remain in control, but by making it a factor based on RNG, it's something that negates a player's skill and execution which is another head-scratching design decision. The online integration is also weird, I don't like that it was a separate mode and would have preferred seeing online players in the regular tournament even if I wasn't playing against them. The fishing was lame and the home area seemed to be well-meaning but ultimately uninteresting and a waste of time. The core game is as good as it's ever been, but there are so many flaws that really leave a sour taste. A real bummer overall. 2.5 stars
Pretty good! In terms of gameplay and polish it's up to Naughty Dog's usual high standard: incredible visuals and art direction, big set pieces, witty banter, etc. I will say I didn't have as much of a connection with the characters as I did with Nate/Elena/Sully, but overall it was a worthy Uncharted game 4 stars
Eh... It was fine... The story of the game was basically split in half, and you play through the first half of the game twice, then you play the second half. The first playthrough was fine, relatively unremarkable, but the second playthrough of the same events was really a slog. I struggled to get the motivation to play the game at all during this playthrough... The third playthrough was good, though, I liked the character and the environments and even some of the story beats. But by that point, I was kinda ready for it to be over. Speaking of the story, it kinda didn't make a lot of sense and there are some things that either don't line up or weren't explained all that well, so ultimately I couldn't really develop an attachment to anything that was happening. The combat was fine, I guess, it didn't really stand out to me one way or the other, it just kinda did the job. Music was great. Overall this game evokes no profound emotion from me, but rather a deep sigh 3 stars
The amount of gravity added to the story after playing Zero is impressive, and I really enjoyed playing through it. Much like Zero, the combat ended up being my least favorite thing about the game, and there was a lot of it (thanks Majima). The story was engaging and the window into another culture is fascinating. Excited and curious to see where the story goes from here 4 stars
I got tricked into playing a Call of Duty game
