JRPG is a dated term. They are all just RPGs now. But I associate the term JRPG with a certain kind of comfort that often isn't found in other RPGs.

I like the hunts. They hid the best part of the game behind optional side content. They hid one of the best boss fights in Final Fantasy (The Ancient Man of Mystery) behind optional end-game content that most will never see.
Doesn't do anything outside the ordinary with the formula, but takes the formula and wraps it up in a nice big present of a game, like just waiting for you under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning under the gaudy Christmas ornaments and lights. A polished stone of a game.
