2018 was a year of a massive influx of Battle Royale games, and only one game on this list will have one (and it won't even release this year)

Rockstar nailed it with Red Dead Redemption 2. While the systems introduced made parts of the game unbearably slow and plodding, they also added to the atmosphere of a dying age in a more and more developed world.
Hitman 2 is more Hitman. Enough said. The added systems and better showing of the pertinent information make the excellent gameplay introduced in 2016's Hitman even better.
Sony showed that single-player games are still alive and well. Spider-Man (And God Of War) proved to every publisher that single-player experiences are still alive and well in this ever-online market.
Horizon 4 is more Horizon, and much like Hitman 2, it is more of the things that made the previous game(s) great. The addition of the seasons has a huge effect on how races play out, and the visual change makes driving in this world even more realistic.
F1 2018 takes the formula that Codemasters created for the series and implements a few needed changes. The new cars and new career make the game feel even better than the 2017 iteration.
Donut County is the perfect game to kill an evening, and every person can play it and enjoy the game.
While Battlefield V has had some weird points when it comes to reaction from the fan base, it is still a very competent game. It takes the class systems introduced in Battlefield 1, and moves closer to the time period that made Battlefield great.
With its release on PC, the already fantastic-looking series now looks even better. While Longshot is still a pretty bad excuse for a career/story, Madden 19 is the culmination of everything that makes and has made Madden great.
With its true full release, Wreckfest, the ultimate demolition derby physics demo, can finally get on a end-of-year list. If you haven't seen the craziness that can arise, pull up some videos on YouTube.
A mix of Minecraft, all of the survival games released in the past two years, and Castaway, Subnautica is a cool take on the survival-crafting genre.
