Soundtracks of 2015

by blzzzrrttt

Not to be confused with the eventual 'Best Soundtracks of 2015' list I will eventually make/turn this into once the time for it approaches. For now, here's where I'll put any and every soundtrack of note that I stumble upon this year.

Axiom Verge

Axiom Verge

Composed By: Tom Happ Dark, atmospheric chiptune that, for the most part, manages to sound very 'alien' and foreboding. I found the main theme to be pretty memorable as the main melody is implemented into the songs that play during the story beats in the game. I don't really like that one song with the vocals (Inexorable) only because I died a ton in the areas where it played and got to hear the beginning of the track over and over. Highlights include: The Axiom (Main Theme), Apocalypse (Final Boss Theme)

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Composed By: Various Artists The music of the Hotline Miami games are a big part of the experience and Hotline 2 pulls no punches when it comes to the soundtrack. Not only is there more soundtrack this time around but it's a lot more perverse, intense and diverse compared to the first. Maybe that's because most of the music is licensed but there's still no denying that Hotline 2's soundtrack is pretty dope. Highlights include: Carpenter Brut - Le Perv (That song that plays during the jailbreak), El Tigr3 - She Swallowed Burning Coals (The song that plays during the nightclub level)

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Crypt of the NecroDancer

Composed By: Danny B, A-Rival, FamilyJules7X There are 3 composers for this one, but you should know that as far as melodies go it's all basically the same (and composed by Danny B). Each composer has their own soundtrack (which you can select in-game) which dictates what kind of music you'll play to. Danny B's varies depending on what zone you're in (ranging from up trance to mellow reggae sounding stuff), A-Rival's is a heavy dose of 'EDM' (Electro House, Dubstep etc.) and FamilyJules7X's is a complex metal/rock version of the original compositions. All of the variants are great but I personally prefer to play the A-Rival soundtrack. Highlights include: Level 2-1, All the "Fire and Ice" themes from Zone 3, All of the boss themes.

Nuclear Throne

Nuclear Throne

Composed By: Kozilek & doseone Leaving this here just in case this escapes early access this year. The music in Nuclear Throne is just so 'appropriate'. The main theme is exactly the kind of song you'd hear at a campfire inhabited by mutants and the same can be said of all the level music. Oh yeah, there's a track where gunshots are the beat and it simply doesn't get any better than that. Highlights include: The Main Menu theme, Y.V.'s Mansion theme, the Gun Locker theme.

Duck Game

Duck Game

Composed by: ??? (Most likely to be Supejoebob, developer of the game) Okay, so technically this came out in 2014 BUT it came out on the Ouya so that makes it eligible because it's being released on a platform people actually care about. Just kidding (sort of) but in all seriousness, if you haven't heard Duck Game's soundtrack you should seek it out right now. It sounds like it's been to sound like a Genesis/Mega Drive sound chip and considering the fact that the composer also made a vst plugin that recreates that system's sound hardware I'm going to say that's totally what they were going for.
