I took 60 pages of notes.
It came out! and it's great!! I put like 90 hours into it and hit 100%. Looking forward to doing the same with whatever they do next.
This is literally the first turn-based RPG I've finished in probably twenty years.
This came out in 2024, but I played it this year. I haven't finished it yet, but it's terrific. Combat is totally fine, if unremarkable. You are basically ghostbusters in New England 1695. There is a main story that I'm excited to see through; but also a huge number of side quests that all feel like really good episodes of a TV procedural. I spent a lot of nights sitting down for an hour or two and solving a mystery or two. Really really fantastic.
Didn't finish it, still need to. Some of the incidental dialogue is...trite, let's say. But overall a very good game. If you play it, find a way to do so without giving Microsoft any money on account of their active role in an ongoing genocide.
I didn't finish the first game but I did finish this one, because this one did a much better job of keeping me going. Characters are often in the same room this time! It's the usual nonsense. You already know if you're into it or not.
It's just Snake Eater, you probably already have an opinion about Snake Eater. There are lots of good and intelligent conversations about remakes like this and whether they have any value, whether they pave over aesthetic beauty with fancy realism. But I'm a weird sicko who loves camouflage. I love games where you have to use camouflage. And now the camouflage looks more camouflage-y than ever. And there's a photo mode so you can take pictures and be like "where's Snake hiding???" because you camouflaged him so well. This is a treat for me specifically.
Specifically the Legion Remix event that ran for the last couple months and ends in a few weeks. This is the second "Remix" and continues to be some of the most fun I've ever had with the game. I'll be sad when it ends, but I also understand that this sort of mode wouldn't really work as a permanent thing. As it stands, these feel like beach episodes to bridge the wait between expansions; and just like beach episodes, they might be the best part of the whole thing.
This game is good. It's good! I liked it a lot, just like I liked Mario Odyssey a lot. I think it's a little too long. I think there are too many bananas. I think the post-game (to the extent that there is one) is much less exciting than Odyssey's. I didn't play that DLC and I get a kind of unpleasant feeling that that's where they hid the post-game.
