Best Wii Games (for new Wii owners)

GC = Gamecube, VC = Virtual Console, it has games from... NES = Nintendo (first one), SNES = Super Nintendo, 64 = Nintendo 64, Genesis, Mastersystem and TurboGraphics.
I'm going to list the ones I know are good and a few that have gotten great reviews.  I will also include Gamecube and Virtual Console games that are still good and should be played.  This list is NOT in order of how good it is.  I will put Wii games first, then GC, then virtual console.
All GC games require GC controllers, you can NOT use Wii controllers for it.   You also need an old GC memory card for saves for GC games.
Virtual Console games are weird.  You need a classic controller for some of them ,but not all.  If it's a NES or Genesis game you don't need it, but for N64 games you need the classic controller, but only 1.  Repeat, you only need 1 classic controller.  You can use GC controllers for the rest.  So what I did was buy 1 classic controller and 4 GC controllers.  So I can play any GC game 4 player AND any virtual console game 4 player (like Star Fox 64)

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

1. WarioWare: Smooth Moves

Crazy Japanese game that's great for parties. All games last 3-5 seconds long, but they're crazy and addicting.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion

2. Trauma Center: Second Opinion

Great surgery game, even my mom and oldest sister (both nurses) thought it was great. Although not accurate (they were stiching slowly and carefully when doing it faster is better with it being a game and not real life). There was actually a study of surgery students who had never practiced and they had half play this game for 10 hours first and the other half not. The ones who played this did like 15% better or something like that. Only gripe with the game is the story gets in the way. You end up curing a stupid fake disease that's unrealistic instead of continuing to heart pump and take glass out of arms.

Trauma Center: New Blood

3. Trauma Center: New Blood

Suffers the same of the first of story, but this one's 2 player! This is especially useful if only one of you is really good and the other isn't good enough to beat it on their own. Now you can handle the "hard stuff" like scalpel (requires quick and steady hand) while the other can keep their hands on the suction (suck up blood) or putting anti-bacterial stuff on the patient (all easy to do, but vital to winning). I'd recommend this one over the original.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

4. Sonic and the Secret Rings

It's a decent budget game. The single player is different, but not amazing (can get crazy difficult in certain parts and makes you angry, but mostly it's not too difficult). The multiplayer mini-games aren't as intuitive as WarioWare or Wii Sports, they take some knowledge (very little) of a controller (it's basically an original NES controller). The games are fun though, but only in short bursts (don't play for too long or you'll play the same mini-games again and again).

Mario Party 8

5. Mario Party 8

To be honest, this is not a great game. It's a bunch of mini-games that don't suck. The Wii is full of games that are only mini-games that do suck. These don't...but that's all this is. It can be very fun with the right crowd or younger audiences or maybe parents who don't mind going with the flow. My biggest gripe is the price, it's been out for a few years, it should be $20-30 by now, but the Wii is SOOOOO popular, they can keep it at $40-50.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

6. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

If you hate your family and your friends or if you want to hate them, then buy this game. Actually, it's extreamly fun to play 4 player, but it can be frustrating if even 1 player is either really good or really bad. The 1 good player is running ahead and everyone else is dying because of it. Or the 1 bad player is lagging behind, dying a lot, and not having fun. That's also it's biggest strength, it's so delightfully difficult and punishing that you just have to laugh at how much you die and try again. I had a blast with my friends. Playing with 4 really good players will probably be a totally different experience, but I haven't played with 3 other good players yet...so...can't comment.

Metroid Prime Trilogy

7. Metroid Prime Trilogy

The first 2 games were originally GC games, but this is the best bang for your buck. As of writing this best buy has this for $20! I bought the first for $7 used and it was totally worth more than that. I haven't played the other 2, but they're similar in gameplay.

Worms: A Space Oddity

8. Worms: A Space Oddity

This is not the best worms game. I played Worms 2 way back in the mid-90s and it's better than this with more weapons. However, this is the only Worms game for the Wii. I have a hard time recommending this because you'll either love it or hate it. Rent it or borrow from someone before buying, however, it's probably $20, so if you don't like it, you can give it as a present to someone else.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

9. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Another strange one. I love the Smash Bros franchise. 64 one was great, melee on GC was even better. Brawl was different and probably better in a lot of ways, but it had a different feel to it. Maybe I got burned out on it when I got Brawl. Still, it's a great fighting game with so much chaos it's crazy. However, you can actually get "really good" at this crazy game and people have tournaments and junk. It's 4 player and you can team up (very good if you have friends that aren't good. team up vs you or 3 of you team up vs 1 very hard computer!)

Super Mario Galaxy

10. Super Mario Galaxy

Haven't played it, but supposed to be fun.
